Job Description:
Overall Responsibilities:
Develops vision, strategies, benchmarks and goals for alumni engagement through key programming opportunities. Creates strategies which will effectively engage a diverse set of constituents.
Sets direction for alumni programming.
Supervises the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and manages the alumni office budget including budget planning, forecasting and tracking.
Builds and maintains relationships with on-campus constituencies to best partner on engagement opportunities.
Other duties as assigned: Participates in all aspects of program and department planning and in the establishment of department goals and objectives.
Alumni Board
Lead the relaunch of the Alumni Board.
Partner with the Chief Alumni Engagement Officer in recruiting and placing new members on the Board. Recruits members based on specific criteria, i.e. regional engagement, different graduating years, professions, to develop a diverse board that represents the Alumni Association.
The Director will develop and execute a three year plan of engagement for Alumni Board members.
Provides direction, vision and support to the Alumni Board in developing initiatives that advance the AlumniAssociation’s efforts on behalf of the University.
Homecoming
In partnership with the Vice President of Advancement, the Director of Alumni Programming will develop two days of programming that will attract a wide variety of alumni back to campus.
Emphasize reunions and large scale events that re-engage alumni.
Work year-round with a Homecoming committee, including representation from the Alumni Board, to plan and execute meaningful events.
Oversee an Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement in coordinating reunion planning with various committees.
Presence in San Diego
Develop and implement a robust plan to engage local alumni throughout San Diego County.
Initiatives may include monthly dinners hosted by key alumni, large scale events, speakers programs, greater partnership with Career Services and mentorship opportunities for Alumni to connect with students.
Builds and maintains relationships with on-campus constituencies to best partner on engagement opportunities (colleges, student affairs, students, administration, etc.).
Manage alumni volunteers to strengthen connections among alumni and with the University.
Regional Alumni Events
In partnership with the Alumni Board and the Chief Alumni Engagement Officer, develop and execute a yearly plan of regional events.
Work toward the goal of establishing 12-15 thriving alumni chapters
Strive for 6-8 events annually.
Partnership with Deans
Meet with each of the eight Deans twice a year.
Collaborate with the Deans to develop a communication plan for each school.
Assist in executing a newsletter once a month from each Dean.
Work with the Director of Annual Giving to ensure alignment with initiatives such as Green4Gold and other giving campaigns.
Communications
Collaborate with the Chief Alumni Engagement Officer to share alumni stories in meaningful ways through newsletters, the Viewpoint, and other marketing materials.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
Degree in Marketing Communications, or related field preferred
Experience in higher education preferred
Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects and implement strategic plans for an organization
Experience in donor relations, event planning or project management preferred
Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
