The Director, Marketing, Strategy & Commercial Effectiveness Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) is a key member of the ANZ leadership team, and a strategic commercial leader responsible for defining and executing Thermo Fisher Scientific’s marketing, commercial and market growth strategy. This role partners closely with business and divisional leaders to determine market strategy, strengthen customer engagement, expand market presence, evolve commercial effectiveness, take market share and deliver sustainable, profitable growth.

The Director leads the development of data-driven market strategies, integrated marketing and commercial effectiveness that align with business priorities and global objectives. By combining deep market insight, competitive intelligence, and commercial acumen, the role shapes Thermo Fisher’s value proposition, future strategy, portfolio positioning, and go-to-market effectiveness across key customer segments and industries.

Working collaboratively across sales, product management, and regional marketing functions, the Director ensures cohesive brand execution, demand generation, and market activation. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the role translates market opportunities into actionable strategies that drive growth, differentiation, and customer success.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Strategy

  • Shape Thermo Fisher’s strategy through data-driven market analysis, segmentation, and opportunity assessment to target high-growth customer and industry segments. Translate market trends and customer insights into actionable strategies that guide portfolio prioritization, channel development, and commercial execution.

  • Define and execute the marketing and market growth strategy to strengthen Thermo Fisher Scientific’s brand presence, customer engagement, and market leadership across Australia and New Zealand.

  • Partner with business and divisional leaders to align marketing initiatives with corporate strategy, ensuring market insights and customer needs directly inform business priorities and investment decisions.

  • Lead the development of integrated marketing programs—spanning brand, portfolio, digital, and customer campaigns—to drive awareness, demand generation, and commercial impact.

  • Drive marketing innovation by embedding digital tools, automation, and eSolutions to enhance customer experience, streamline engagement, and improve marketing efficiency.

  • Ensure marketing initiatives leverage digital platforms, analytics, and eCommerce channels to optimize reach, conversion, and ROI.

  • Oversee consistent brand positioning and messaging across all channels, ensuring alignment with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s global brand and values.

Digital Marketing & eSolutions

  • Lead the use of digital marketing and eSolutions to enhance customer engagement, sales enablement, and business growth.

  • Partner with APJ Digital Marketing COE to evolve the ANZ eCommerce and digital ecosystem, ensuring seamless customer journeys across online platforms.

  • Implement data-driven marketing practices using automation, CRM, and analytics tools to personalize engagement and measure campaign effectiveness.

  • Drive continuous innovation in digital channels, marketing technology, and customer insight capabilities to accelerate Thermo Fisher’s digital maturity.

Commercial Effectiveness

  • Leads the Commercial Effectiveness team, which includes tenders, pricing, sales development and our procurement partnership approach.

  • The goal of this team is to continuously evolve quality or our processes and approach to drive more strategic customer engagement and build capability across the commercial organisation.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team that embodies Thermo Fisher Scientific’s values of Intensity, Integrity, Innovation, and Involvement.

  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with Commercial, Product Management, and Digital/IT teams to ensure cohesive market execution and strategic alignment.

  • Manage marketing budgets and resources effectively, ensuring investment decisions deliver measurable business outcomes and sustainable value.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing data-driven insights and strategic recommendations that inform decision-making and organizational priorities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Commerce, or a related discipline required; postgraduate or MBA qualification preferred.
  • Minimum 10–12 years of progressive marketing and commercial leadership experience, including relevant experience at a senior management level within complex, global, or matrixed organizations.
  • Proven ability to design and execute market growth strategies that drive measurable business outcomes, market share expansion, and customer engagement. Skilled in leveraging customer insights, competitive intelligence, and data analytics to shape portfolio and market strategy
  • Deep experience in integrated marketing strategy, digital marketing, and go-to-market execution across multiple channels and customer segments.
  • Demonstrated success in leading digital transformation and eSolutions initiatives, including marketing automation, CRM, analytics, and eCommerce platforms.
  • Experience building, developing, and inspiring high-performing teams; demonstrated capability to lead through influence across cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience within scientific, technology, or healthcare sectors preferred; strong appreciation of B2B and solution-based marketing environments advantageous.
