About the Role

The Director, Manufacturing Operations will be responsible for the development, execution and sustainability of the Company’s operational strategic objectives at our Kelowna Facility. The objective of this position is to streamline the execution of manufacturing activities across the company’s production sites while ensuring the efficient production of high-quality products to support all corporate revenue-driven strategies for the Canadian market. This high-energy job requires resilience, adaptability and flexibility; the individual must have the ability to think strategically while implementing new methods to achieve cost savings and efficiencies while increasing productivity and speed to market. The individual will lead and oversee the production, operations, continuous improvement, project management and site security teams.

Reporting Relationships and Contacts

  • Reports to: VP, Operations
  • Directs: Facility Managers/ Training Specialist
  • Internal Relationships: Safety, Quality, Planning, Procurement, Production, Processing, Cultivation, Operations, Customer Service and Logistics, Maintenance, Supply Chain Excellence, Sales and Marketing, Business Technology, Finance, and Strategy
  • External Relationships: Customer / Supplier relationships as required

Scope of Role: 

  • Leading the optimization of the operations by developing, implementing and executing strategic initiatives focused on increasing operational efficiencies and driving cost savings
  • Be jointly accountable with the VP, Operations for the efficient integration of both the supply chain and production functions, ensuring well-coordinated management to meet a dynamic sales forecast to deliver objectives that are on time and on budget.
  • Actively develop and manage teams to improve efficiencies in production, manufacturing, operations and facilities while also supporting other teams through process improvement
  • Participating with senior management in establishing long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives related to operations.
  • Development and implementation of KPIs aimed at improving measurement and monitoring of key objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, specified contract metrics, and maintain high standards of operational activities, introducing efficiencies where applicable
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 10+ years experience in operations or technical management role
  • 7+ years experience leading complex operations and/or technical teams effectively
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline required, Master’s degree is preferred
  • Experience as a trusted and respected people leader who can develop and coach multiple teams to the best of their ability in a fast paced, ever-evolving environment
  • Strong experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Microsoft Dynamics preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functional teams within an organization
  • Excellent change management skills; can bring needed change to light and execute as required
  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory requirements for import and export of goods, HACCP, Good Production Practices (GPP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Ability to work in and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment with dynamic priorities and evolving targets
  • Experience with multiple manufacturing sites an asset
  • Proven track record of strong negotiation and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory criminal record check.
  • Cannabis and cannabis quality standards experience preferred.
