The Director, Lending Portfolio Management – Unsecured Account Management Strategies leads the development and supports the execution of Retail product suite credit strategies (one to focus on Unsecured Lending, and one to focus on Business Banking) . This role leverages best‑in‑class decision‑tree technologies, machine‑learning‑enabled models, and advanced optimization software to build next‑generation credit decisioning that drives profitable growth, enhances customer experience, and strengthens portfolio resilience within the organization’s risk appetite.

Acting as both a strategic leader and hands‑on practitioner, the Director defines the treatment strategy across the full account‑management lifecycle including credit limit management, behavioural segmentation, providing insight for pre‑delinquency interventions, and overall exposure management. This leader collaborates across Product, Risk, Technology, Analytics, and Operations teams to deliver scalable, automated, and analytically rigorous solutions that evolve with customer behaviour and market dynamics.

As a designated model user, the Director provides critical direction on the models, scores, and analytical signals used to differentiate customer risk. They partner closely with model developers to ensure effective model use, oversee integration of scores into strategy logic, and actively ideate new tools, segmentation approaches, and analytical innovation to unlock incremental performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Design & Optimization:
    Build and enhance customer‑level account management strategies using state‑of‑the‑art decision‑tree and optimization platforms, aligning interventions to growth, profitability, and risk objectives.

  • Model Use Leadership:
    Serve as a primary model user, providing direction on how models and scores are applied within strategy designs, ensuring appropriate interpretation, calibration, and segmentation to differentiate risk across the portfolio.

  • Analytical Innovation & Ideation:
    Identify opportunities for new analytical tools, behavioural scores, challenger models, and alternative data signals to drive stronger predictive power and improve strategy outcomes.

  • Champion–Challenger Testing:
    Lead structured experimentation frameworks to evaluate, iterate, and scale new treatments, segmentation schemes, and decision pathways.

  • Lifecycle Strategy Ownership:
    Oversee strategy design for credit limit management, exposure optimization, early‑warning treatments, and performance‑based customer interventions and work closely with UnSecured Acquisition and Collections strategies to ensure aligned actions across the customer lifecyle. .

  • Technology & Execution Partnership:
    Collaborate with Technology and Analytics partners to translate complex strategy logic into deployable decision rules, ensuring technical feasibility, model governance alignment, and operational integrity.

  • Portfolio Monitoring & Insights:
    Provide deep, data‑driven insights into portfolio performance and emerging trends; recommend proactive adjustments to maintain performance within risk appetite.

  • Governance & Risk Alignment:
    Ensure strategies comply with credit policy, regulatory expectations, and model governance standards, including documentation, monitoring, and ongoing validation of strategy effectiveness.

  • Cross‑Functional Influence & Leadership:
    Act as a strategic advisor to senior leaders, influencing decisions on customer experience, risk appetite, credit policy, and product strategy across business units.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Deep experience in Credit Card and/or Unsecured Lending account management or lifecycle strategy. (for Unsecured Lending)

  • Deep experience in Business Banking. (for Business Banking)

  • Advanced understanding of credit risk modelling concepts and practical experience as a model user.

  • Proficiency with decision engines, decision‑tree software, optimization tools, and analytical platforms (e.g., FICO, SAS, ARGOSS, ML scoring systems).

  • Strong analytical and strategic problem‑solving capabilities with the ability to translate insights into executable strategies.

  • Proven ability to lead large, cross‑functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.

  • Comfort navigating model governance, credit policy, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation, experimentation, and continuous strategy improvement.

Salary:

$110,500.00 - $192,500.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
