The Director, IT Internal Audit is a senior leadership role reporting to the Global Head of Internal Audit. This role is accountable for setting and executing OMERS IT internal audit strategy to support strong governance, effective risk management, and regulatory compliance. The Director leads the IT audit team, partners closely with senior leaders across the organization, and provides independent assurance over technology-related risks, controls, and processes.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute a risk-based IT internal audit strategy and annual audit plan, aligned with organizational priorities, regulatory expectations, and leading practices.
Lead and oversee IT audit engagements, ensuring audits are well planned, executed to a high standard, and reported clearly and on time.
Deliver clear, practical, and value-added findings and recommendations that address root causes and enable management to strengthen controls and processes.
Present audit results and insights to the Global Head of Internal Audit, senior management, and the Audit & Risk Committee.
Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key stakeholders, including Data & Technology, decentralized IT teams, Risk Management, and Internal Control Program teams.
Monitor and report on management action plans, including assessing the adequacy and timeliness of remediation.
Coordinate with external audit and Internal Controls teams to support reliance on relevant IT general controls (ITGC) testing.
Lead, coach, and develop the IT internal audit team, fostering strong audit judgment, technical capability, and professional growth.
Proactively identify emerging technology, cybersecurity, data, and regulatory risks, assessing potential impacts to OMERS and adjusting audit priorities accordingly.
Promote continuous improvement in audit methodology, use of data analytics, and technology-enabled auditing.
Prepare insightful audit reports for OMERS executives and the Audit & Risk Committee
To succeed in this role, you have:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional auditing or accounting designation required (CPA, CIA, CISA or equivalent).
Minimum of 7+ years of internal or external audit experience, including demonstrated people leadership.
Strong understanding of internal audit standards, governance frameworks, and IT risk management practices; experience in pension funds, asset management, or financial services preferred.
Proven ability to communicate complex issues clearly and influence outcomes at senior and executive levels.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Demonstrated ability to quickly understand complex systems, processes, and interdependencies.
Experience with data analytics and technology-enabled audit techniques considered a strong asset.
