Position Summary

The Head of IT Engineering is responsible for the research, development, implementation, and oversight of engineering strategies across the Information Technology organization. The Head of IT Engineering continuously analyses technologies and engineering practices and provides leadership and technical direction to align Information Technology (IT) with the strategic visions of the company.


The Head of IT Engineering reports to the Vice President of Digital Transformation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Understand and anticipate the strategic direction of the global IT organization
  • Standardize and oversee application and platform design across IT, including architecture, process, testing, and release strategies
  • Spearhead technical transformation initiatives to increase IT agility and improve engineering practices
  • Collaborate with external teams to improve enable software development agility
  • Work with internal teams and vendors to evaluate best return on investment for new tools and technologies
  • Lead engineering groups in developing applications, tools, processes, and standards for use by IT teams

Key Performance Indicators

  • Continuous implementation and standardization of effective modern engineering strategies and architectures
  • Increase the efficiency of technology teams and reduce manual overhead in maintenance and operations via automation and process improvements
  • Coach and mentor teams and individuals on technology adoption, best practices, and skillset building
  • Continually learn, grow, and assess industry leading technologies and practices for use within IT

Skills / Competencies:

  • Expertise in architecture and management of decoupled microservice development, delivery, and API ecosystems following domain-driven design
  • Expertise in Agile development and developing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery systems and practices for application development, 12-Factor Application Development
  • Expertise in architecting with Everything-as-Code/GitOps practices and “eventual consistency” canary and blue/green development and release engineering patterns
  • Strong knowledge in infrastructure components such including operating systems, systems networking, private cloud development and operations, and security operations
  • Experience leading development and technical operational teams, and transformation of enterprise technology teams, practices, and monolithic system architecture
  • Experience leading teams to design and maintain systems with Kubernetes, Docker/LXC, Terraform, Amazon Web Services, OpenStack, Ansible, Packer, Chef, GNU/Linux, Windows, Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios/Icinga, Gitlab-CI/Jenkins
