The Director of IP & Optical Transport is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of the core network infrastructure. This includes the strategic design, engineering, deployment, and 24/7 operational support of high-capacity IP routing and optical transport networks. You will lead a high-performing team of engineers to ensure maximum network reliability, scalability, and performance to support [Consumer/Enterprise/5G] services.
1. Strategic Engineering & Design
Lead the architectural evolution of the core IP/MPLS and Optical (DWDM/ROADM) networks.
Drive the transition toward Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
Oversee capacity planning to stay ahead of traffic growth curves, ensuring zero-bottleneck performance.
2. Operational Excellence
Develop and maintain rigorous SLAs/SLOs for network uptime and latency.
Implement automated monitoring and telemetry tools to move from reactive to proactive maintenance.
3. Leadership & Financial Management
Manage a multi-million dollar CAPEX/OPEX budget, including vendor negotiations and contract renewals.
Mentor and scale an engineering organization, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
Collaborate with Product and Sales teams to ensure the network can support new product launches (e.g., 5G slicing, ultra-low latency enterprise links).
Technical Qualifications
IP Networking - Expert-level knowledge of BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS (RSVP-TE, LDP), and Segment Routing.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience: 10+ years in telecommunications network engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Certification: CCIE (Service Provider/Routing & Switching), JNCIE, or equivalent industry certifications are highly desirable.
Crisis Management: Calm under pressure during critical "Network Down" events.
Vendor Diplomacy: Ability to hold equipment providers accountable for hardware bugs and delivery timelines.
Visionary Thinking: Ability to predict where the industry is heading 3–5 years out.
