What is the opportunity?

A key role within the RBC Taxation group where you will manage the Canadian tax compliance with respect to RBC’s international subsidiaries, and provide Canadian tax advice and analysis with an emphasis on the Canadian taxation of RBC’s international subsidiaries.  The position contributes to maximizing shareholder value as a key contact for the taxation team by proactively managing tax risk and ensuring full compliance with Canadian tax laws. 

What will you do?

  • Manage the Canadian international tax compliance process for the international subsidiaries of RBC, including FAPI calculations, annual foreign affiliate reporting requirements, and surplus calculations, among others;
  • Support the management of audits conducted by Canadian tax authorities, including liaising with government representatives, responding to queries, reviewing reassessment proposals and filing objections;
  • Identify, research, and resolve multi-jurisdictional tax issues (FAPI, withholding tax and tax treaties);
  • Support internal initiatives as they relate to income taxation including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate reorganizations, and treasury financing activities;
  • Participate in the team’s continuing journey to benefit from the use of technology, and support the implementation of tax reporting systems to optimize outcomes and reporting; and
  • Keep abreast of tax legislative developments to determine and communicate impacts to senior members of the RBC Group.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • CPA designation.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian federal income tax concepts, foreign affiliate taxation, and tax treaties.
  • High-level working knowledge of local (non-Canadian) tax laws where the RBC Group operates. 
  • 7+ years of full-time experience in a large corporation and / or in a major accounting firm with a minimum of 5 years of specialization in the taxation of foreign affiliates.  Experience related to the financial services industry is preferrable, but not mandatory.
  • Completed advanced specialized courses offered by professional associations on the taxation of foreign affiliates.
  • Ability to develop trust and credibility with senior Business Unit (BU) and Functional Unit (FU) representatives and peers in order to facilitate cooperation on the ongoing management of RBC’s overall tax risk and liability.
  • Very good communication skills (both oral and written) and ability to distill technical tax implications to BU representatives and peers.
  • Proven experience leading and managing complex projects and meeting tight concurrent deadlines.
  • Experience working in a challenging, progressive and fast paced environment.
