Capital Power Corporation is seeking an experienced Director, Interconnections and Transmissions.
You’ll contribute to our team by:
- Identifying transmission and interconnection options and implementing and managing the most optimal interconnection for each project.
- Leading the interconnection processes and system studies, interconnection cost optimization and agreements and approvals.
- Bringing working knowledge of transmission system topology and flows, supply demand, interconnection process and transmission queues in development of greenfield, brownfield opportunities and in the evaluation of acquisition opportunities.
- Serve as the main point of contact for new interconnects by managing the interactions with transmission owners and operators and ISOs (International Organization for Standardization), RTOs (real-time operating systems), and utilities.
- Proactively identifying and handling transmission risks, including curtailments, for the development pipeline to preserve and maintain value and identifying potential opportunities to reduce risk.
- Negotiating and managing interconnection agreements.
- Managing commercial issues during construction and acting as an intermediary between construction and engineering and the transmissions owner and operator (RTOs or the ISO).
- Serve as the subject matter expert for transmission access policies, processes, and regulatory requirements (local provincial/state and FERC).
- Proactively managing and ensuring compliance with all transmission and system access/interconnection agreements; based on a strong working knowledge of counterparties and regulations.
- Making recommendations and leading efforts to resolve and manage transmission and system access issues or disputes and serving as a primary contact on such issues to resolve disputes.
- Shaping emerging transmission access, interconnection trends, and policy in a manner consistent with optimizing the cost and timing for projects.
- Collaborating with CPC's Regulatory group and other subject-matter expert groups as required to lend input on emerging transmission and interconnection trends, issues, or policies that may impact our growth objectives and coordinating with internal stakeholders to address and mitigate these threats and/or opportunities.
- Travel within the U.S. up to 30%.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
- 6 years of experience as a Director, Interconnections and Transmissions, Sr. Technical Advisory Consultant, Director of Transmission Systems & Planning, or similar duties under a different job title.
- 6 years managing relationships with existing and potential key stakeholders.
- Experience to also include 3 years in:
- Leading, executing, and providing solutions for transmission planning and Interconnection studies projects including power flow, transient stability, short circuit, electromagnetic transients, reliability, and economic dispatch;
- Providing leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff and developing training on power system and transmission planning assignments;
- Supervising the interconnection study chain, from drafting to submitting applications;
- Attending meetings and conferences to offer electrical engineering expertise in the area of solar energy projects;
- Leading the engineering, financial, and technical analysis for various engineering projects, including power generation and delivery, and transmission paths;
- Reviewing engineering design and construction documents, commonly used mechanical/electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical/electrical engineering services industry;
- Using advanced transmission planning techniques resulting in the development of new system plans, equipment and/or technological methods which are compliant NERC, RTO or other industry standards and criteria;
- Developing and evaluating future transmission planning plans for major electrical projects, applying necessary NERC, FERC and regional assessments, and following established requirements and standards.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% in the U.S.
