Position Summary

The Director, HR Business Partners leads a team of HRBPs to deliver strategic and operational HR support aligned to business priorities across a 1,200-employee utility organization. This role serves as a senior advisor to business leaders, translating enterprise strategy into actionable people plans that drive performance, organizational effectiveness, and workforce engagement. The Director ensures consistent execution of HR programs and provides leadership across workforce planning, talent management, employee relations, and total rewards in partnership with the HR COE teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic Business Partnership

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, aligning HR strategies with business objectives and operational priorities
    • Provide leadership to organizational transformation priorities into actionable talent and organizational plans
    • Provide guidance on organizational design, workforce planning, and change management initiatives to support growth and organizational effectiveness initiatives
  • HRBP Team Leadership

    • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 3 HR Business Partners to deliver high- impact, consistent support across the organization
    • Establish clear priorities, operating rhythms, and standards for HRBP engagement
    • Build team capability in strategic consulting, data-driven decision making, and influencing skills
  • Talent & Workforce Management

    • Drive talent management process delivery and adoption including performance management, succession planning, and leadership development
    • Partner with leaders to identify and develop high-potential talent and address capability gaps as part of talent reviews and succession planning discussions
    • Support workforce health through engagement, retention strategies, and proactive issue resolution
  • Employee Relations & Culture

    • Provide oversight and guidance on complex employee relations matters, ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes
    • Reinforce SJI leadership behaviors and culture through leadership coaching and organizational interventions
    • Partner across HR to drive inclusion, engagement, and a high-performance culture
  • Compensation & Total Rewards Alignment

    • Partner with Total Rewards to ensure compensation and rewards strategies are effectively implemented and aligned with business needs and COE job architecture
    • Support leaders in compensation planning, pay-for-performance decisions, and workforce planning and cost management​
  • Operational Excellence & Governance

    • Ensure consistent application of HR policies, programs, and practices across the business
    • Utilize data and insights to inform decision making and measure effectiveness of HR initiatives
    • Partner with Centers of Excellence to deliver integrated, scalable HR solutions

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Significant business partnering experience
  • Prior experience leading HRBP teams or equivalent leadership experience
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect people strategies to business outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational design, workforce planning, and talent management
  • Proven ability to influence and partner effectively with senior leaders
  • Experience operating in a complex, regulated, or utility environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership capabilities

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 11 years of relevant experience, or;
  • Master’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • In addition, a minimum of 3 years of leadership experience is required.
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Compensation Range:

$160,000 - 200,000

We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience.
