Location: Barcelona, Spain (3 days/week) working from the office.
The Director, Head of Centralized Content is a leadership role responsible for establishing, directing, and optimizing the strategic vision and operational excellence of centralized content creation across global markets and across multiple therapeutic areas and indications. This position will lead the transformation of medical communications such that centralized content becomes the foundation for all medical communications activities at Alexion. This will require ensuring innovative centralized content development strategies, seamless alignment with global therapeutic area objectives, change management to drive adoption and harmonization across all functions and geographies.
You will be responsible for:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement comprehensive centralized content strategy aligned with global therapeutic area objectives and organizational priorities
Drive change management to support strategy
Champion innovation in content creation methodologies, digital platforms, and delivery mechanisms by leveraging emerging technologies such as AI
Operational Excellence
Direct the execution of annual centralized content deliverables such as global slide libraries, pipeline materials and other medical exchange materials
Establish and maintain quality standards
Establish data analytics to track content utilization, effectiveness, and impact
Collaborate closely with Scientific Communications, Medical/Legal/Regulatory Review, and Field Capabilities teams to establish efficient review processes and ensure all centralized content meets global regulatory requirements and company compliance standards
Manage budgets to meet the annual operating plan objectives and support regular financial forecasts
Assess digital transformation and implement technology needed to support centralized content creation and adoption
Team Leadership and Development
Build and lead a high-performing team
Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering professional development and career advancement
Vendor Management
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with medical communications agencies, consultants, and technology vendors
Negotiate and manage complex vendor contracts
Establish and monitor governance frameworks including performance monitoring and quality assurance protocols
You will need to have:
Education and Experience
Advanced degree required: PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent experience in medical communications
Minimum 7 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry
Minimum 2 years of people management experience
Minimum 5 years of direct vendor management experience
Extensive experience in strategic content creation for assets ranging from pipeline through commercialization
Technical Expertise
Deep expertise in Medical/Legal/Regulatory Review processes and requirements across major global markets
Proven experience with copyright evaluation and acquisition
Exceptional scientific writing and editing capabilities
Demonstrated ability to synthesize, and organize highly complex scientific data
Leadership and Strategic Skills
Proven track record of implementing complex strategic initiatives and driving organizational change
Exceptional stakeholder management abilities with experience influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams
Strong analytical and metrics-driven approach to measuring content effectiveness
We would prefer for you to have:
Background or extensive experience in rare diseases with therapeutic area expertise
Advanced Veeva platform administration experience and Medical Review workflow optimization
Proficiency with digital platforms such as Veeva, Docuvera, and digital asset management platforms and content development technologies
MBA or PMP
Experience with AI/ML applications in content creation
Understanding of regional regulatory and cultural considerations
