The Opportunity

This position defines, leads, and implements training strategies to support short and long term AQR training needs and initiatives for Abbott Quality functions as well as maintain Documentation Management of Abbott AQR and GES Global and Divisional Policies/Procedures.

This position must ensure that the quality, regulatory and compliance-related curriculum needs are met and aligned with Abbott's overall business strategy.

This position must execute training strategies while balancing cultural, financial and resource constraints. These training strategies are implemented and executed through Abbott Quality and Regulatory (AQR) Training and the Abbott divisions. AQR Training is an Abbott Quality and Regulatory resource center that provides shared services, training curriculum, and quality awareness initiatives to all Abbott Divisions and employees worldwide. This position identifies, manages and leads training strategies for the corporate-wide quality, regulatory and compliance programs impacting Abbott's business.

This position leads the team responsible for processing change requests for new documents and revisions to existing documents. The incumbent ensures that any changes made to existing documents are appropriate, justified, and as with new documents, are approved by the required functional areas according to established procedures. Additional responsibilities may include coordination of documentation with project teams, plus successful completion of assigned projects.

This role is responsible for the oversight of research and creation of reports for divisions and senior management from internal and external sources regarding quality/regulatory data such as news which impacts Abbott operations, competitor inspections, recalls, and operations etc.   Additionally, involved in projects to improve methods for data gathering, analysis and visualization.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Establishing training design and delivery processes to ensure highly effective and efficient quality-related training programs

  • Standardizing quality-related curriculum

  • Providing global training across Abbott

  • Identifying best practices across Abbott and external sources for training

  • Define policies/procedures/guidance strategies to ensure full compliance with global applicable regulations

  • Develop strategic partnerships with senior management (Divisional Vice Presidents and Directors) and associated business councils to deliver strategies that have a broad impact on all business areas within Abbott

  • Obtain and leverage benchmarking data from peers and industry leaders to ensure best-in-class training solutions and learning services for Abbott quality, regulatory and compliance

  • Interface with Abbott Divisions and outside practitioners in the field of Adult Learning, Instructional Design, On-the-Job Training and Curriculum Management to ensure that Abbott is current on the latest training techniques and methods and to help establish and deploy training standards of excellence

  • Lead cross-functional teams focused on standardization, best practices, execution of programs, and continuous improvement as it relates to the overall training and documentation strategy

  • Provide tools, delivery systems, resources, and guidance including E-Learning systems that drive consistency, quality of content and training effectiveness of programs

  • Provide leadership, direction, and training expertise to Quality and Regulatory organizations within Abbott that do not have an established training organization infrastructure, e.g. emerging businesses, newly acquired businesses and newer sites.

What You’ll Work On

Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures
 

Leadership

  • Establish a vision, supporting strategies, and multi-year implementation plan for deploying highly effective and efficient quality-related global training curriculum including target audiences across Abbott globally. · Oversee and direct the strategies and programs implemented through Global Training & Intelligence Services.

  • Manage relationships with vendors (internal and external) to achieve a strong partnership to leverage the most cost effective training and best-in-class services

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure effective and efficient implementation of consistent training processes and programs in Abbott worldwide

  • This responsibility includes the programs developed by external partners like the American Society of Quality, AAMI, etc.

  • Benchmark internal and external critical success factors affecting quality, regulatory and compliance training effectiveness

  • Design, develop and deploy consistent methodologies for corporate quality-related training including needs assessments, program instructional design and development, tracking, and measuring effectiveness.

  • Direct new technology adoption for virtual classroom and globalization

  • Implement and maintain an electronic training management system in Abbott Quality and Regulatory and as requested by other divisions or corporate functions for maintaining training tracking information/history required by applicable standards and regulations/laws issued by local, state and federal regulatory agencies

  • Develop and maintain the training plans for AQR and other corporate functions as requested, e.g. Corporate Marketing

Communication

  • Influence key stakeholders required for full support and successful implementation of Quality and Regulatory training programs.

  • Communicate to senior management the appropriate summarized functional area information and impact to the business.

  • Support strategy and effective communication to staff, so they fully understand and embrace their roles and responsibilities

  • Lead and/or participate on Abbott teams in a matrix environment, to maintain in-depth knowledge of business processes, training and educational strategies, regulations, and to establish global training development priorities including non-native English speaking audiences

  • Partner with the business and functional training members to set a clear recommendation for senior management

  • Inspire, motivate and communicate effectively in a changing global environment to support the business vision set by executive management

Talent Management

  • Attract and retain talent, ensure development (leadership, cross-functional, technical, global perspective) and diversity

  • Develop talent by actively coaching, managing and mentoring employees​

Additional Responsibilities

  • Implementation of global quality systems and the corporate quality system documents governing these programs

  • Provide program leadership and governance across businesses/divisions regarding the implementation and maintenance of a Corporate wide Abbott Quality System Policies/Procedures

  • This position has the responsibility and accountability to provide leadership and oversight for corporate quality training for AQR and document management within AQR/GES. The Document Management Center is responsible for processing change requests for new Quality System documents and revisions to existing documents. The incumbent ensures that any changes made to existing documents are appropriate, justified, and as with new documents, are approved by the required functional areas according to established procedures. Additional responsibilities may include coordination of documentation with project teams, plus successful completion of assigned projects

  • Broad latitude is afforded to define and direct training staff which designs, develops, implements, and measures quality-related training programs to ensure effective programs

  • Responsible to provide to divisions and senior management insights from internal and external sources regarding quality/regulatory data such as news which impacts Abbott operations, competitor inspections, recalls, etc.  

  • Must effectively represent and influence the Quality and Compliance Training and Documentation Management communities across Abbott

  • Support AQR leaders that are seeking quality, regulatory, and compliance curriculum with Abbott’s business needs/strategies

  • Reports directly to DVP, Global Compliance & Quality Operations within Abbott Quality and Regulatory

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 8 years Global business experience in quality, business and operations with increasing levels of responsibilities including senior strategy development and execution across multiple functions.

  • Proven line management capabilities and team leadership skills.

  • Good communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability in: 

    • Management in multiple functional areas within Operations 

    • Resource planning and budgeting 

    • Crisis Management (e.g. Risk Based analysis, decision making, contingency planning) and Conflict resolution (e.g. influence and negotiation skills) 

    • Budgeting/Cash Flow and Capital execution

    • Developing people and capabilities for the talent pipeline 

    • Execution of human resource policies and practices within all related guidelines and regulations 

    • Working collaboratively with external consultants, contractors and third party suppliers 

    • Execution of new services, product introduction and/or process improvement activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree - especially MBA, or Masters in Science, Engineering or related technical field.

  • Broad-based experience with products, process and technologies is highly desirable.    

  • Global experience, regulatory and compliance background

  • Familiarity with healthcare, pharma and medical devices

The base pay for this position is

$149,300.00 – $298,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
