Director, Global Trade Compliance

SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

This position oversees and leads Exelixis’ global trade compliance efforts and global logistics activities. This includes overseeing the customs compliance activities associated with the importing and exporting of goods within a pharmaceutical company. This person will also oversee freight forwarders and customs brokers activities. This person is the subject matter expert in processes related to import/export, duty, tariff classifications, FTZ administration, and other trade-related compliance requirements. This individual will assist in growing and establishing the Trade Compliance program and facilitate a training program to establish a network of subject matter experts throughout the company to ensure compliance within the program. This person will also oversee the global logistics team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and executes the vision for trade compliance through leading projects and initiates to further develop the program.
  • Keep abreast with current industry movements and upcoming regulatory changes.
  • Act as the main liaison within the organization for any issues or questions related to trade compliance.
  • Generates policies, procedures, and standards related to Trade Compliance and Logistics.
  • Educate and develop an organizational training curriculum on trade compliance subjects.
  • Oversees and performs audits and investigations to maintain adherence to compliance and ensures all records are precise and up to date.
  • Generate scorecards for activities related to trade, brokers and freight forwarders measuring performance and adherence to compliance.
  • Oversees Transportation Validations.
  • Advises on logistics strategies and projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervisor responsibilities would include overseeing logistics managers, logistics specialists, trade compliance managers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and consultants.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education:

  • BS/BA degree in related field and a minimum of 13 years of experience; or,
  • MS/MA degree in related field and a minimum of 11 years of experience; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed Customs Broker preferred.

Experience:

  • Ten years of Trade Compliance or equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Experience with FDA, DEA, EPA, and USDA import compliance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A comprehensive understanding of trade regulations.
  • Familiar with automaton tools or system integrations.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization including executive and senior management and staff, including simplifying complex topics.
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, relationship management and project management skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational talents and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to set priorities based on corporate goals, impact to the business, and daily operation requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate in a matrix environment on complex tasks while multi-tasking and meeting short deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation of criteria for obtaining results.
  • Environment: primarily working indoors.
  • Will be required to work after/before hours and on weekends when overseeing critical projects.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $169,500 - $239,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.
