The Opportunity
Abbott Diabetes Care currently has an opportunity for a Director of Global Technical Learning & Competency Development. This person will manage educational programs for the ADC R&D Digital team and will be responsible for: 1) Continuously assessing educational needs; 2) Create a long term vision and implement best-in-class learning journeys that engages employees and delivers strategic developmental content to all R&D Digital team members; 3) Support divisional and corporate training strategies; incorporate these into specific training programs; achieve corporate and divisional training goals, aligned with current ADC goals, processes and platforms; 4) Partner with other training functions and leverage current/future educational initiatives across ADC globally.
What You’ll Work On
- Lead ADC technical education program: partner with R&D leadership to identify needs and develop a comprehensive long-term education plan to all Digital team members to ensure the development of skills and knowledge necessary to achieve overall business and functional goals.
- Develop clear mission, vision, strategies for the technical education program through effective tracking of goals, objectives and priorities to ensure alignment with long term needs of division.
- Work closely with Commercial and other functional training teams to leverage existing programs and tools, share best practices and assure a cohesive training/education approach to all ADC employees.
- Implement programs within agreed timelines and budget.
- Develop scheduled communications to various internal audiences and manage team meetings to ensure management and companywide awareness/buy in to programs.
- Proactively suggest and recommend new ideas and creative ways to engage audiences.
- Ability to manage changing scenarios due to onsite needs and requirements.
- Ensure training expertise to provide quality training and skill programs that meet organization/division needs.
- Work with departments (HR, OEC, C&P, etc.) to ensure compliance and documentation of policies.
- Oversee training documentation.
- Oversee and help develop/design management tools to support training.
- Keep abreast of current trends in training and development.
- Develop and assign training programs and learning journeys.
- Implement and maintain effectiveness of quality system by understanding and adhering to Code of Business Conduct and all Operating Guidelines.
- Lead and facilitate programs that relate to providing training, using most current learning techniques, instructional design contents and innovative delivery methods to ensure information transfer.
- Coordinate / review budgets, capital plans, cost improvement programs.
- Establish internal / external executive management relationships to provide added value to training programs and delivery conduct new hire training when necessary.
- Continuously update training and skill materials.
- Work with representatives and managers to assess effectiveness of training programs and tools by identifying training strengths and deficits.
- Participate in advisory panels to ensure continuation of superior training.
- Keep abreast of key industry publications.
- Set and drive priorities consistent with business objectives of R&D organization; plan, maintain and assign training resources to ensure timely and effective training of employees to achieve positive and immediate business impact; execute projects to support organizational needs within financial budget constraints; provide leadership by influencing others; translate and implement training strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree,
- Advanced knowledge and exposure to science or health sciences required necessary to successfully perform responsibilities of the position
- 10 years of overall business experience, of which (non-cumulatively) 5 years should be in a training capacity.
- Proven ability to: manage diverse organizations by demonstrating knowledge of diagnostic industry and market; competency in financial analysis; competency to identify project scope and impact of strategies, tactics and decisions on overall business; interpersonal skills to manage conflict and negotiate vendor and cross functional issues; sensitivity and ability to effectively deal with cross-cultural diversity; capability of managing managers and people from remote sites; proven leadership skills.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable regulations and standards.

- effectively work with variety of individuals and at all levels of management to gain consensus on program development / delivery
- quickly learn about new products and markets
- determine best training approach to deliver to R&D digital organization
- integrate a variety of inputs on training approaches to develop appropriate and effective training programs
- demonstrate excellent communications to ensure all stakeholders are kept abreast of key activities in development of training programs
- continuously assess training requirements and implement changes in training programs to reflect requirements
- assess both long and short-term training requirements
- evaluate variety of training methodologies and concepts
