JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Global Strategic Insights is responsible for delivering actionable intelligence, advanced analytics, and strategic counsel that enables Abbott’s $3B Vascular Business Unit to make insight‑driven decisions. This role builds and maintains the organization’s fact base, synthesizes market and customer insights, and partners with franchises, regions, and senior leadership to identify opportunities, shape investment choices, and accelerate global growth, innovation, and competitive advantage.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead and develop the Global Strategic Insights organization by setting clear priorities, building capabilities, strengthening analytic and strategic acumen, and optimizing tools, talent, and budget to deliver measurable business impact.
- Foster a high‑performance, customer‑centric culture grounded in curiosity, collaboration, proactive thinking, and evidence‑based decision‑making.
- Establish operating rhythms that ensure rigorous analysis and translate data into clear, actionable insights.
Cross-Functional & Cross-Regional Partnership
- Serve as the enterprise Voice of the Customer and Industry, ensuring that customer needs, market realities, and external dynamics directly inform strategic choices and execution.
- Partner closely with Global Marketing, Regional Commercial teams, R&D, Clinical, HEOR, and Finance to drive aligned, insight‑driven decisions across regions.
- Anticipate stakeholder needs by “running ahead of the question” — proactively identifying issues, opportunities, and implications before they emerge.
- Conduct ongoing informal market sensing by maintaining a strong pulse on trends and sentiment through regular engagement with field teams, regional partners, medical affairs, and physicians.
Strategic & Business Planning
- Lead insights development for annual and 5-year strategic planning, ensuring strategies are grounded in robust fact bases, forward-looking analytics, and customer‑need–driven opportunities.
- Guide scenario planning, competitive anticipation, and long-range market evolution analysis to shape strategic choices and mitigate risk.
- Elevate strategic discussions through the lens of Total Addressable Problem — identifying the core customer problems Abbott can uniquely solve and mapping associated market opportunities
Market Modeling & Forecasting
- Build and maintain Vascular’ s global “single source of truth” for market sizing, segmentation, share, and growth, enabling consistent decision-making across functions and regions.
- Deliver transparent, high-quality, forecasting models to support Organic Execution Model (OEM) alignment, Latest Best Estimate (LBE) planning, New Product Introduction (NPI) assessments, and investment prioritization.
- Identify inflection points, emerging trends, and possible futures through scenario modeling and sensitivity analyses.
Market Intelligence
- Assess customer needs, clinical trends, economic pressures, and industry dynamics to uncover performance levers and inform strategic decisions.
- Synthesize fragmented data into clear insights and compelling storylines that translate market signals into practical recommendations for franchises and leadership.
- Identify enabling technologies, competitive threats, and growth drivers that shape portfolio strategy and commercial execution.
- Incorporate continuous real-world feedback and learnings to validate intelligence, assess market sentiment, and detect early signals of change.
Primary & Secondary Market Research
- Lead the design and execution of primary and secondary research to uncover actionable customer insights, refine value propositions, and support go‑to‑market strategy.
- Apply advanced qualitative and quantitative methods, including as unmet‑need assessments, pricing elasticity studies, ethnography, and customer journey mapping.
- Translate research findings into clear business guidance, framing insights with supporting data, strategic implications, and recommended actions.
Competitive Intelligence
- Drive a proactive competitive intelligence program that monitors competitor actions, clinical evidence, launches, regulatory developments, and market shifts.
- Lead scenario planning, war-gaming, and strategic simulations to anticipate competitive moves and inform portfolio and commercial strategies.
- Deliver timely, action-oriented intelligence that equips leadership and franchises with both the insight and the “so what” to act decisively.
Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics
- Build tools, dashboards, and analytics platforms that illuminate market trends, growth drivers, and Vascular performance, including geographic strengths and performance gaps.
- Leverage advanced analytics across internal and external datasets (sales, claims, diagnosis, epidemiology, and economic data) to uncover insights that drive strategic and commercial decisions.
- Prioritize insight generation over data reporting, by delivering synthesized, actionable recommendations backed by rigorous analytics.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, Engineering, Data Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- Graduate degree -strongly preferred. Master’s degree, or equivalent advanced degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics, Health Economics, Data Science, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Marketing, Strategy, Market Research, Business Intelligence, or related analytics/insights roles within healthcare, medtech, or life sciences.
Background and Capabilities
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to link market and customer insights to portfolio strategy, commercialization, and financial impact.
- Exceptional communication and executive storytelling skills, with the ability to influence and align senior leadership.
- Deep expertise in primary and secondary market research, including advanced qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights that drive strategy and decision‑making.
- Advanced experience in market modeling and forecasting, including market sizing, segmentation, and scenario planning.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a global, matrixed environment and navigate diverse stakeholder needs.
- Strong leadership and collaborative orientation, with the ability to coach and develop a team, build trust and drive cross‑functional alignment.

The base pay for this position is
$197,300.00 – $394,700.00
