Fixed Income Technology is seeking a strong, motivated developer manager to be part of Global Trading Solutions’ Rates Technology team.  The individual would be responsible for owning, building and operating the electronic trading technology stack that supports Rates businesses.  

The role leads front office engineering teams and acts as the primary technology partner to Rates Trading desk and product owner.  A successful candidate has a keen interest in developing low-latency, resilient, scalable and compliant trading system in Java while enabling increasing levels of automation and electronic execution across the D2C and D2D flows. The individual will split time between development and managing developers to implement new robust trading features and improve on our existing offerings. 

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end electronic trading technology platform for Rates (Dealer and Trader flows including RFQ engineers, pricing services, execution workflows).
  • Define and evolve the technical strategy and an event-driven, micro servicesbased target architecture for Rates Cash and Derivatives electronic trading.
  • Manage real-time integrations with Trading venues and protocols (eg. RFQ and streaming connectivity). Market data and pricing sources and Risk, position, and downstream systems
  • Proactively manage capacity, performance tuning, and scaling.
  • Translate trading and product requirements into clear technical designs and delivery plans.
  • Create thorough test cases to ensure software stability and reliability
  • Partner closely with operations and production support teams new features and existing strategy behaviors
  • Support production issues, including independently completing root-cause analysis and diagnosis.
  • Communicate clearly with senior business and technology leadership on: Roadmap progress, Production risk and Strategic tradeoffs.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of professional core Java development experience building Front-Office Rates Electronic Trading Technology solutions.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in high-stakes trading environments. 
  • Strong understanding of electronic trading workflows (RFQ, streaming, algo execution, Rates market structure (functional understanding)
  • Experience owning production systems with direct trader impact.
  • Hands-on background with low-latency, real-time systems with performance optimization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; eager to ask questions; able to clearly explain ideas
  • Strong collaborative and team skills
  • Strong JUnit testing skills

Salary:

$150,700.00 - $261,800.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
