About the role

The Finance Director in Digital Business & Technology Solutions (DBTS) is responsible for overseeing the consolidation of DBTS financials. The incumbent will actively manage the expense and recovery positions for each DBTS area and product/service, along with performing ad-hoc analysis based on various leadership requests. The position requires strong financial modeling, presentation, and communication skills and reports directly to the AVP Finance, Digital Business & Technology solutions. This is a highly visible role across DBTS senior leadership.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the consolidation of the DBTS financial management cycles, working in partnership with DBTS finance leaders. Ensure the quality, timeliness and accuracy of the financial data is met with emphasis on the following:
    • Establishing and managing timelines
    • Setting rules for pre-population of budget and forecast data.
    • Overseeing the multi-dimensional allocations
    • Prepare expense and recovery presentations for DBTS and Finance leadership.
  • Lead Executive and Board Reporting including the consolidation and reporting of global technology expenses and FTE reporting
  • Lead the consolidation and presentation of the overall DBTS expense and recovery positions for forecast, business and strategic plans, including providing oversight into areas of opportunity and risk.
  • Support Corporate regulatory reporting
  • Controllership oversight on balance sheet accounts, ledger reconciliation, and chargebacks
  • Facilitate the annual SR&ED tax credit filing
  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring employees
  • Provide thought leadership for the overall DBTS team

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Progressive experience within financial management functions (7-10 years)
  • Accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent relevant business experience
  • Proven experience in expense management, cost accounting, activity based costing, and financial modelling.
  • Familiar with / basic knowledge of cost recovery / chargeback models.
  • Experience working in large, complex organizations would be an asset.
  • Experience working with SAP Financials and Hyperion Planning would be an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple and often conflicting timelines. 
  • Ability to operate in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Client focused with an attitude to deliver excellent client outcomes.
  • Ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges. 
  • Ability to take "ownership" with high sense of urgency and work like an "entrepreneur."
  • Problem solving, analytics and resolution skills.
  • Exceptional and effective verbal & written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills to drive management actions based on insights observed.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
