Just imagine a future with us...

At Aurecon, our Environment and Planning group goes beyond traditional consulting. We combine strategy, commercial insight and technical depth to help clients make confident, future-focused investment decisions.

Join a growing national team working at the intersection of strategy, investment and delivery — shaping infrastructure that drives real beneficial economic and community impact.

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

Aurecon’s Queensland Environment and Planning team has a strong capability from project planning and feasibility to construction and operation on a wide range of projects across both Queensland and Australia. You will lead a team that ‘bring ideas to life’ for our clients across the transport, energy, water, land, built environment and government sectors.

Our current committed and projected workload provides a unique and specific opportunity for a Director-level Environmental Scientist/Planner with expertise in managing and delivering Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) under Queensland and Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) legislation. This role can be based in Brisbane, Mackay, Gladstone or Maroochydore. The role offers diverse, interesting and challenging work across a variety of market sectors, including water, transport, resources and energy, with the opportunity to make your mark in a consulting environment.

This is a senior leadership role with the opportunity to shape both the work and its direction. On some days, you will lead complex technical delivery; on others, you will help define project strategy and scope with clients, and proactively lead and foster opportunities while strengthening key relationships.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the identification, pursuit and delivery of technical assessments and EISs under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 (Qld), Planning Act 2016 (Qld), Environmental Protection Act 1994 (Qld) and EPBC Act, including development and implementation of approval strategies across State and Commonwealth frameworks
  • Advise clients on approval pathways, key risks and opportunities, and manage complex EIS projects across a range of sectors
  • Oversee and coordinate technical studies, and lead engagement, negotiation and liaison with regulatory agencies
  • Prepare and contribute to high-quality, winning proposals
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted client relationships across Queensland
  • Partner with senior leadership to grow the client base and expand Queensland and national EIS capability
  • Take ownership of project delivery, including scope, budget and schedule management
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level consultants

What are we looking for from you?

You’ll have a genuine passion for re-imagining problems and continuous learning to help shape the future. To be successful, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Law, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience managing and coordinating environmental approvals across multiple sectors, including EISs under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 (Qld), Environmental Protection Act 1994 (Qld) and EPBC Act
  • Strong understanding of environmental assessment processes and broader regulatory requirements at both State and Commonwealth levels
  • Proven experience engaging with regulators, including Queensland agencies (such as the Office of the Coordinator-General and the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation) and the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
  • An established presence and credibility within the environmental consulting or related industry
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading and developing multidisciplinary teams of 20+ environmental professionals across a range of seniority levels
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to balance technical excellence and project performance

At Aurecon, we value diverse experiences and perspectives. You’ll be part of a team that’s passionate about shaping better infrastructure outcomes and creating a more inclusive, innovative future.
