The Director of Enterprise Architecture at Humana plays a pivotal leadership role in aligning technology strategy with business objectives to drive organizational excellence and innovation. This position is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of enterprise-wide architectural standards, guiding modernization efforts, and ensuring alignment between business needs and technical solutions. The Director will collaborate across business segments, IT leaders, and engineering teams, serving as a champion for Humana's technology vision and strategic priorities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of architects, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Translate complex business needs into scalable, secure, and compliant technical solutions and architectural roadmaps.
  • Integrate hardware, software, and network interfaces to form cohesive systems that support organizational goals and future growth.
  • Present architectural strategies and solution designs to senior leadership, demonstrating strong executive presence and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Drive strategic negotiations across technology owners, application owners, solution architects, and other stakeholders to ensure delivery of compliant and innovative solutions.
  • Oversee the governance of architecture standards, patterns, and best practices, ensuring consistency, interoperability, and regulatory compliance across platforms including cloud, on-premise, and SaaS.
  • Recommend new products and approaches to evolve Humana's technical infrastructure in alignment with enterprise strategy.
  • Provide leadership in developing the organization's technical and architectural staff, supporting large-scale projects, mergers, acquisitions, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support the identification and mitigation of architecture drift by conducting regular architecture reviews and facilitating corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of Humana's reference architecture and technical capability models to enable strategic alignment and efficiency.

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8 or more years of progressive technical experience in enterprise architecture, application development, or engineering roles.
  • 5 or more years of management experience, including direct team leadership and mentoring responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior architect or technical lead in large IT projects spanning multiple enterprise systems.
  • Deep understanding of solution architecture, technology modernization, cloud migration, and architecture governance frameworks.
  • Proven executive presence with the ability to effectively present and negotiate with senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation skills and demonstrated success working across technology domains to deliver compliant, scalable solutions.
  • Passion for advancing consumer experiences and driving organizational excellence through technology innovation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through technology transformation and modernization.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies, high-performance engineering practices, and architecture management systems.
  • Expertise in architecture best practices, technical capability modeling, and cloud strategy principles.
  • Experience working within Fortune 500 organizations or Big 4 consulting firms is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work EST hours

Remote/WAH requirements:

  • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.
  • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$172,200 - $236,900 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
