Director, Engineering and Build - Anti-Money Laundering Technology, GFT

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Join RBC’s AML IT team in Toronto as a Director of Engineering & Build, where you’ll lead the development and innovation of mission-critical solutions for client screening, transaction monitoring, and investigations. This role is a unique opportunity to partner closely with the AML business unit, driving high-quality, scalable technology solutions that combat financial crime. You’ll guide and nurture cross-functional teams, leveraging a modern tech stack (Hadoop, Snowflake, Java/Scala, DB2, OpenShift, Azure) to deliver robust, future-proof systems. WHAT WILL YOU DO?

• Lead end-to-end solution delivery for AML initiatives, ensuring scalable design and implementation across client screening, transaction monitoring, and investigations.
• Partner with the AML business unit to align technology strategy with business goals, driving innovation and efficiency.
• Guide and mentor engineering leads to foster high-performance teams and deliver high-quality, timely solutions.
• Oversee the tech stack (Hadoop, Snowflake, Java/Scala, DB2, OpenShift, Azure) to ensure optimal use and scalability.
• Drive architectural decisions to future-proof AML systems, balancing performance, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., Risk, Compliance, Technology) to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
• Identify and mitigate risks in project execution, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery without compromising quality.
• Champion innovation by exploring emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance AML capabilities.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must-have:

• 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership, with a focus on large-scale, complex systems (e.g., AML, fraud, or regulatory tech).
• Proven expertise in the tech stack: Hadoop, Snowflake, Java/Scala, DB2, OpenShift, and Azure.
• Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor teams, fostering collaboration and high performance.
• Deep understanding of AML processes (client screening, transaction monitoring, investigations) and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to balance technical excellence with business needs, ensuring solutions are both innovative and practical.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in financial services or highly regulated industries.
• Certifications in cloud technologies (Azure), data engineering, or architecture (e.g., TOGAF).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Strong stakeholder management skills to influence and align diverse teams.
