The Opportunity

Cochlear has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Embedded Software Development & Delivery to join our global R&D team in Mechelen, Belgium or Vallauris, France. In this role, you will lead the transformation and delivery of next-generation embedded software platforms for Cochlear’s future sound processor and implant systems.

You will:

  • Define and implement strategies for scalable, configurable embedded software platform releases.

  • Ensure architectural alignment with Product Family Engineering and Cochlear’s systems architecture.

  • Build and develop high-performing embedded software engineering teams across Europe.

  • Champion innovation and foster collaboration across R&D, product management, and technology partners.

  • Oversee delivery of embedded software platform releases, ensuring compliance with medical device regulations and Cochlear’s quality management system.

This is a high-impact leadership role with strong visibility across global R&D, offering the chance to shape Cochlear’s embedded technology platforms and influence future product portfolios.

About You

To add value in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Software Development or similar.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience leading large embedded software development teams in complex R&D environments.

  • Proven track record in developing managers and leaders.

  • Experience managing multi-stakeholder project portfolios with high technical complexity.

  • Familiarity with Agile development and DevOps for embedded systems at scale.

  • Experience in medical device development or other safety-critical applications (ideal).

  • Strong strategic leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

You’ll be a motivator and builder of high-performing teams, with the ability to inspire bold goals and deliver results through collaboration and innovation.
