Job purpose
This role is responsible for developing and implementing the governance and operating framework for Sun Life bancassurance in Asia as a first line of defense function. The role will also play a pivotal role in overseeing risks tied to how policies are sold (agents, bank partners, digital, etc.), ensuring compliance, preventing fraud/mis-selling, and protecting the company's reputation by managing new risks associated with any change in distribution models, while ensuring fair customer outcomes and profitable growth across complex omnichannel networks.
Major accountabilities
Lead the articulation and effective implementation of the distribution risk governance framework (i.e. operating guidelines and associated policies) for the Bancassurance partnerships and Agency channel.
Lead regional efforts to uplift BUs capabilities in collaboration with other regional expertise around identifying, assessing, mitigating and managing distribution risk. Work closely with the local distribution teams to embed a risk-aware culture across the organization (incl influencing relevant bank partners)
Prepare risk reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management and relevant committees. Act as the main point of contact for risk management queries related to distribution in Asia
Co-develop and implement competency frameworks to ensure distributors meet regulatory and company requirements in collaboration with the training teams
Specialized knowledge
Up-to-date understanding of market dynamics and regulatory landscape for financial services and Banca in the region, and ability to synthesize the dynamics into concise inputs for informed decision making.
Strong knowledge of risk assessment frameworks, regulatory compliance, and distribution processes.
Ability to build trusted, strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Analytical skills with the ability to assess complex data and identify risks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting
Ability to articulate complex concepts clearly, deliver persuasive presentations, and represent Sun Life with authority to diverse audiences.
Qualification
University degree in Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience within the financial service and life insurance industry.
Deep expertise and in-depth knowledge of Banca in insurance or banks are required.
Strong data-driven decision-making skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
Excellent written, verbal communication and data-visualization skills.
Good influencing skills.
Ability to deal with ambiguity.
