What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Global Asset Management (GAM) Technology group, as part of Direct Investing & Simplii Technology, and will be at the heart of CIBC’s technology transformation.  As Director, Data Modernization and Development, you will be accountable for establishing and driving the technology data application delivery roadmap for GAM Technology. This individual contributor role acts as the single point of contact for the technology development (operational and project initiatives) for this business area using the latest technologies.  The incumbent will assist in shaping the strategic technology direction in accordance with the business agenda, determine technology optimization, appropriate risk management, and provide the development and maintenance capability for GAM technology systems, applications and processes to meet current and future business needs. This role has full accountability for a variety of technology disciplines and hands-on development work would be expected (along with its technical leadership capability), specifically about the data strategy and implementation for the innovative journeys.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Strategic Development & Execution - Identify GAM Technology needs as part of an integrated business and technology roadmap, align all technology application services to support those needs and deliver against them. Understand and implement our business strategies, operating model, and processing. Design, develop, implement/execute and support GAM Technology strategies which include:  Cloud strategy, Data and Business Analytics strategy (leveraging Azure Databricks, and other data related components), Application Modernization/CCR strategy, Application Health-check and Innovation strategy, Process Automation (QA), DevOps adoption. 
  • Relationship Management - Be a liaison/single point of contact for all CIBC enterprise development practices, standards and governance controls for other CIBC groups and technology vendors, as well as advise GAM Technology on emerging technical trends in the industry and at CIBC, and ensure application services best practices reflect appropriate technological developments for a competitive business position.  Collaborate and support the other GAM Technology teams in the delivery of technology modernization that address the strategic and operational GAM business partner agenda and the CIBC technology strategy.  Analyze technical risk to support business recommendations and make adjustments to internal operations as necessary to improve performance of the Application Delivery team and associated support teams. 
  • Subject Matter Expert - Apply knowledge of analytic applications, technologies, and concepts such as Data Warehouses, Data Marts, Business Intelligence, MIS, Hadoop, etc. as well as in-depth understanding and active practicing of Agile development methodology.  Utilize strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle and application development along with exposure to Environment & Production Support. Share your in-depth experience with CIBC methodologies and procedures while further expanding your knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for gaining the cooperation and support of others.

Who You Are

  • You are an experienced professional. You have 10+ yrs’ experience designing, developing, implementing and supporting applications with expertise in most of the following: Azure Data Components (Databricks, Azure Data Factory etc), Languages (Net, C#, C/C++, Foxpro, Python, Java, Javascript), Databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase), Cloud (Azure, AWS), ETL (Informatica, SSIS), O/S (Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows), Schedulers etc. (Feedhub, MFTS, Autosys) and Tools (Tools: source control/issue management: Git, TFS, JIRA, Azure DevOps).  This position requires working hands-on Technology experience to drive the following GAM Technology strategies: Cloud, Data and Business Analytics, Application Modernization/CCR, Application Health-check and Innovation, Process Automation (QA) and DevOps adoption. You will utilize your extensive breadth of knowledge to identify opportunities to optimize, modernize, retire or consolidate a large number of applications spanning numerous technologies.  It’s an asset if you have previous experience supporting a Wealth Management or Capital Markets client group or a passion to learn the CAM business.
