The Job Details are as follows:

The Director, Data Ingest directs the Data Ingest Division and participates in defining & driving OCLC metadata governance & policies aimed at maximizing the utility and reliability of OCLC metadata within the full suite of OCLC products and services. The Director demonstrates deep knowledge of national and international metadata standards, including traditional cataloging standards, Dublin Core, ONIX and emerging ones like BIBFRAME and other Linked Data standards. The Director has skills and experience processing, managing and delivering large sets of complex data for diverse customer needs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the system enhancement of DataSync (ingest system).
  • Collaborates closely with Ingest Product Owner to provide cost data and pricing recommendations.
  • Collaborates closely with OCLC Implementation organization to support onboarding of new WMS libraries in a timely manner.
  • Oversees ongoing production processes associated with ingest of data for WorldCat, KnowledgeBase, Central Index and other OCLC data sets as required.
  • Continuously monitors for opportunities to utilize DataSync services to ingest large sets of data as needed to for all OCLC products and services, driven by cost efficiency, speed and added value to customers.  
  • Establishes a metrics driven organization focused on continuous improvement.
  • Oversees the division staff as they work to maintain the efficacy and the efficiency of all ingest work.
  • Oversees division staff who work with third party vendors to capture new sources of metadata and KnowledgeBase content.
  • Domestic and international travel - up to 15%.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of 5 years of cataloging experience using AACR2/MARC and/or other standard metadata schemes.
  • Proven successful management experience with a minimum of 5 years in the library market.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and support others in meeting their deadlines.
  • Experience with defining, measuring and reporting against production criteria.
  • Experience designing metadata workflows and associated business processes to maximize efficiency of results.
  • Experience with automated online library systems, such as OCLC, and library local systems.
  • Ability to perform in a work environment characterized by constant change while maintaining a positive customer service attitude.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with non-MARC based metadata standards, Dublin Core, VRA, EAD, or other emerging metadata standards.
  • Experience with digital asset management systems that support non-MARC based systems
  • Knowledge of linked data and metadata standards like BIBFRAME and schema.org.
  • Experience with Six Sigma or other data-driven quality methodology.
