Job Summary
The Director, Data Engineering provides enterprise leadership for the creation, maintenance, and governance of Corewell Health's data assets, ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used across clinical, operational, and business domains for the Delivery System and Priority Health. As a key member of the Integrated Data Analytics (IDA) senior leadership team, this role translates stakeholder strategy into an executable data engineering portfolio, leveraging cloud technology, and modern data architecture to deliver prepared and curated data models, reusable data products, and governed data pipelines that serve as system wide sources of truth.
The director leads a team of senior engineers and managers, establishes engineering standards and quality practices, and partners closely with analytics, product management, security, compliance, and operational leaders to convert raw operational data into governed, business ready information at scale. The role advances modern data management and observability, supports regulatory and external reporting needs, and navigates a highly matrixed environment to drive a long term, enterprise data strategy across care and coverage. Identifies opportunities to optimize data engineering processes and workflows, implements best practices and standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of enterprise data. Stays abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering, incorporating relevant advancements into organizational practices. Cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric), modern ELT and modeling practices, CI/CD strongly preferred.
Leads the development of standards for data engineering, data quality, and related activities. Implements those standards, coaches others on their use, and monitors and addresses compliance with standards, addressing deviations that arise, to ensure consistency and quality.
Essential Functions
- Leads the integration of people, process, tools and systems to ensure an integrated, cost-effective and highly-efficient Data Analytics operation. Provides leadership for individual and manager-level Data Analytics team members who provide timely and valuable data, services, solutions, and insights to colleagues and leaders of the CH Delivery System.
- Responsible for the procurement of top talent, as well as their acquisition, management, and succession within the organization. Selects, mentors, develops and evaluates subordinates, and initiates personnel actions in accordance with policies and organization philosophy. Maintains a team environment that produces unity, enabling strong relationships with customers and other collaborating roles.
- Builds and sustains important relationships and integration points with other analytic service providers, including Operations, Information Services, Human Resources, Finance, Risk/Compliance/Accreditation, Research and Legal. Creates an expectation that staff become involved in committees / projects / continuous improvement activities. Negotiates vendor contracts and manages assignments. Collaborates with senior leaders of CH as well as other matrix organizations in developing common standards of practice and data sharing.
- Develops, implements and maintains the expense and capital budget assigned to the area(s) of responsibility.

- Works closely with stakeholders through the organization to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions.
Qualifications
- Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent In related field
- Preferred Master's Degree MHSA, MPH, MBA or related field
- 10 years of relevant experience In business analytics, informatics in healthcare analytics. Proven leadership and management experience in a health plan, health system setting or healthcare consulting. Required
- 5 years of relevant experience In people/project/technical leadership Required
