A day in the life

As the Director Data Center Preconstruction, you be a part of strategic planning and execution of pre-construction activities for a portfolio of data center projects. This role requires deep expertise in design, construction, procurement, scheduling, contracting and cost management to ensure seamless project execution from inception to construction. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to develop standardized processes, drive efficiencies, and ensure alignment with business objectives.

The position requires a high degree of energy, passion, outgoing personality, technical competence and integrity. The person will interact daily with Prologis data center, development, and deployment teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participate in feasibility studies, site evaluations, and risk assessments to optimize project planning.
  • Oversee design development, ensuring alignment with operational needs, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability standards.
  • Establish and refine standardized pre-construction processes to drive efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, engineers, general contractors, and regulatory bodies, to drive project success.
  • Engage with procurement team during OFCI vendor bidding process and bid leveling.
  • Develop best practices for procurement of OFCI equipment for Prologis data centers.
  • Oversee and lead implementation of AutoDesk Construction Cloud platform program wide for PLD Data centers.
  • Direct and lead general contractor requests for proposals, receive, evaluate, level responses, and conduct general contractor interviews.
  • Develop conceptual project design and construction schedules in P6 for use during the bidding and design phase.
  • Update schedules weekly and monthly as required.
  • Review contractor cost estimation, budgeting, and procurement strategies to ensure project success.
  • Oversee project estimate deliverables from conceptual to final GMP.
  • Oversee project buyout by general contractor from GMP to complete buyout.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, building codes, and environmental and safety standards.
  • Work closely with supply chain and legal teams to establish efficient contracting structures.
  • Provide project level reporting on project forecasts, risk assessments, and key performance metrics.

Building blocks for success

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience in construction, design, or engineering, with a focus on pre-construction and large-scale data center projects.
  • Proven track record in leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing pre-construction activities for complex, high-value projects.
  • Experience in data center design and construction process, including greenfields and retrofits.
  • Ability to travel, as necessary, to projects

Preferred:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Strong commercial acumen with expertise in cost estimation, procurement strategies, and contract negotiation.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, building codes, and sustainability standards within the data center industry.
  • Computer proficiency: P6 Scheduling Software, Google Earth, ACAD viewer (in addition to general Microsoft tools).
  • Self-motivated and ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Promote a positive, can-do attitude with a real focus on Customer satisfaction, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate willingness and capability to leverage emerging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and speed. Exercises sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.

Hiring Salary Range of: $151,000 - $208,000. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target & LTI (Long Term Incentives) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
