The Director, Cross-Border Road Freight leads the strategy, development, and execution of JAS Forwarding’s North American cross-border ground freight operations across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This role is responsible for building a scalable, competitive, and fully integrated cross-border product, ensuring seamless, compliant, and cost-effective door-to-door transportation solutions.
The Director partners closely with regional operations, customs, and commercial teams to drive service performance, strengthen carrier and vendor networks, and deliver profitable growth across key trade lanes.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Leadership
Cross‑Border Road Operations
- Oversee integrated cross-border solutions including transportation, customs coordination, and value-added services (cross-dock, warehousing, distribution).
- Ensure alignment of infrastructure, capacity, and service offerings with customer demand.
- Manage relationships with asset‑based carriers, owner‑operators, and regional partners.
- Coordinate border processes including documentation, hand‑offs, inspections, and customs clearances.
- Drive operational consistency, visibility, and service reliability across lanes.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to customs, trade, and transportation regulations governing cross‑border road freight.
- Collaborate closely with customs brokers to reduce border delays and compliance risk.
- Monitor regulatory changes, security requirements, and capacity risks impacting cross‑border trucking.
- Lead disruption response for border closures, congestion, weather, labor actions, or capacity shortages.
KPI Management
- Own and manage KPI goals for cross‑border road freight operations.
- Develop pricing strategies, lane‑level margin targets, and cost‑optimization initiatives.
- Lead procurement strategy across carriers and vendors, including network expansion and contract optimization.
- Negotiate carrier contracts, fuel programs, and capacity commitments.
- Analyze lane profitability and recommend corrective actions or expansion opportunities.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as an executive escalation point for key cross‑border road freight customers.
- Maintain strong relationships with strategic shippers, carriers, brokers, and vendors.
- Ensure consistent service quality and customer satisfaction across all ground movements.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead and develop operations managers, dispatch teams, and cross‑border specialists.
- Build a performance‑driven culture emphasizing safety, compliance, accountability, and customer focus.
- Ensure workforce planning, training, and succession planning for critical roles.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (master’s preferred).
- 8–12+ years of experience in road freight or trucking operations with significant cross‑border responsibility.
- Strong understanding of cross‑border trucking processes, customs requirements, and documentation.
- Proven experience managing transportation, P&L, and negotiating carrier agreements.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing multi‑site or multi‑region operations teams.
Preferred
- Experience managing U.S.–Mexico and/or U.S.–Canada trucking operations.
- Familiarity with bonded freight, transload facilities, and customs brokerage coordination.
- Experience with TMS platforms, freight visibility tools, and operational analytics.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
- Professional certifications such as CLTD, CTPAT, or PMP.
