Job Description
Director, Creative Video and Photography is a strategic visual storyteller responsible for leading the creative video and photography unit in the coverage of 35 of Ohio State Athletics’ varsity sports, while working in close coordination with the Ohio State Football creative team. This position will guide the creation and execution of high-impact visual content that strengthens Ohio State’s brand, deepens engagement with fans and constituents, and supports the department’s broader communications, marketing, revenue, and recruitment goals.
The Director will lead a team of five members and student workers, setting clear expectations, establishing workflows, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, creativity, and professionalism. This role is responsible not only for producing excellent content, but for building a team environment where deadlines are met, standards are consistent, feedback is embraced, and each staff member understands how their work contributes to the success of the department. The leader of this unit will manage the creative process across all stages of production, including concept development, pre-production planning, on-site cinematography, and post-production execution, ensuring content is innovative, efficient, and aligned with departmental priorities.
The successful candidate will develop and implement a creative vision for photography and video across all platforms that will be aligned with other external leaders in the areas of social media, OhioStateBuckeyes.com, recruiting, fan experience, fundraising, ticketing, and in-venue/arena and stadium displays. Content should be aligned with the priorities of each sport while also advancing the broader Ohio State Athletics brand. The Director will also ensure that all visual content meets elevated standards for shooting, editing, color correction, sound design, storytelling, and brand presentation.
This position reports to the Executive Associate AD for External Relations and serves as a member of the External Leadership team. As noted above related to football, the Director will work closely with the Sr. Associate AD for Football Strategic Communications on football-related initiatives, alignment, storytelling strategy, and content planning for all areas as needed.
A key component of this role is collaboration with internal and external partners, including Learfield and other key stakeholders, to ensure creative assets support sponsorship activations, partnership deliverables, in-venue experiences, and the department’s broader commercial and promotional objectives. The Director will help align creative output with Ohio State’s communication priorities and ensure content is timely, consistent, and effective in helping grow reach, engagement, and affinity across all platforms.
The position also oversees content archiving and asset management while ensuring all work complies with university policies, NCAA regulations, conference guidelines, and copyright standards.
