Role Summary
The Director of Containers & Golden Image Platforms is a senior technology leader responsible for the strategy, engineering, security, and lifecycle management of the enterprise container platform and operating system golden images.
This role owns the foundational compute layer that powers application teams across cloud and on‑prem environments, ensuring platforms are secure by default, highly automated, compliant, and developer‑friendly. The director will lead teams responsible for container runtime platforms (Kubernetes/EKS/GKE/AKS), base container images, OS golden images, image pipelines, and security scanning integrations, while partnering closely with Security, Cloud Infrastructure, and Application Engineering leaders.

    • Container platforms (Kubernetes and container runtimes)
    • Base container images and hardened OS golden images
  • Drive standardization and consolidation of images to reduce sprawl, cost, and risk.
  • Own the image lifecycle: design, build, hardening, scanning, release cadence, deprecation, and end‑of‑life.

Golden Image Engineering & Governance

  • Lead the creation and maintenance of secure, compliant OS golden images (Linux and Windows).

    • Base images
    • Image pipelines
    • Promotion workflows (dev → release candidate → production)
  • Integrate vulnerability and configuration scanning into CI/CD pipelines using approved enterprise tools.
  • Balance security gates vs. pipeline performance, ensuring scalable and non‑intrusive controls.

Security, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Partner with InfoSec, GRC, and Audit teams to:
    • Embed “secure by default” controls into images and platforms
    • Support audits, risk assessments, and regulatory reviews
  • Ensure continuous visibility into vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and emerging threats.
  • Drive remediation strategies for aging images and zero‑day risks.

Engineering Leadership & People Management

  • Build, mentor, and lead high‑performing platform engineering teams.
  • Set clear ownership models and succession planning for critical platform components.
  • Foster a culture of automation, reliability, documentation, and operational excellence.

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement

  • Act as the single point of accountability for container and image platforms.
  • Communicate roadmap, risks, and trade‑offs to senior technology and security leadership.
  • Influence platform adoption across application, data, and product engineering teams globally.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 12+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or cloud engineering
  • 5+ years in senior technical leadership roles managing managers and senior engineers
  • Deep, hands‑on experience with:
    • Kubernetes (EKS/GKE/AKS)
    • Container runtimes and registries
    • Linux and Windows OS internals
    • Golden image creation and hardening

    • OS hardening standards (CIS, security baselines)
    • Vulnerability and configuration scanning concepts
    • CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and images
    • Cloud‑native and hybrid infrastructure architectures
  • Ability to evaluate trade‑offs between security, performance, and developer experience

Leadership & Communication
