Job Summary

The Director, Generation Services GPO / COAL is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of engineering and outage support services for the coal-fired and natural gas fired boiler (Gas Plant Operations aka GPO) assets within ERCOT, PJM, and MISO markets. This role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant operations while driving performance, cost efficiency, and alignment with Vistra business objectives.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

Provide leadership and direction for generation services supporting ERCOT, PJM, and MISO GPO / coal operations.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while promoting a strong safety culture.
Drive operational excellence, reliability, and performance improvement initiatives across assigned assets.
Collaborate with plants, all levels of leadership, engineering, maintenance, corporate functions, OEMs, Contractors, and various industry contacts to achieve business goals.
Manage budgets, resources, key alliance business partners, and contractor performance to optimize cost and effectiveness.
Lead the outage support organization for the GPO / Coal fleet to meet all schedule and cost expectations for planned and unscheduled outages.
The position provides engineering analysis and options for issues, factoring in safety, performance, reliability, and market conditions.
Supports internal initiatives and teams related to safety, compliance, reliability, and efficiency of the plants.
Leads and supports teams such as trip reduction, and various centers of excellence (COE’s) such as maintenance COE, engineering COE, OPS COE, and others
Lead and support engineering studies and projects with various business partners as needed for outages, upgrades, and other projects at the plants.
Works cross functionally with our internal diagnostic center (Power Optimization Center - POC), technical services, development, construction, operations, supply chain, asset management, legal, and all other organizations within Vistra as needed
Frequent extended business travel in support of meetings, conferences, plant outages, and construction projects
Leadership and participation in both internal and industry conferences and user group forums

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

Demonstrated strong coal experience in operations, maintenance, and engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.  Additional degree, license, or certifications a plus.
20+ years relevant experience in power generation operations, maintenance, or engineering, specifically within coal-fired or gas-fired conventional boiler generation.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multi-site teams and complex operations
Expertise with interpersonal skills, communication, analytical, decision making, creative problem solving, outage execution, and project management
Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety programs, and industry standards.
Proficiency with MS Office suite, PI Historian, Maximo, SAP, Primavera a plus
Demonstrated history working in an interdependent organization to achieve organizational goals with team members from many different parts of the company
Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
