What You’ll Be Doing
Capital Markets provides integrated services and products aimed at serving investors as well as corporate and institutional clients globally. The Capital Markets business is a recognized leader in the industry specializing in investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and research. Collectively, these lines of business (LOBs) are achieving CIBC’s core purpose: to help make our clients’ ambitions a reality.
As a Director on the Centralized Governance & Controls team, you will work with the Executive Director (ED) and the other Directors within CGC to ensure key governance & controls activities for Capital Markets are fulfilled. In this role, you actively contribute to the team’s engagement in CIBC bank-wide projects, programs and committees, strengthening our collective impact across the organization.

How You’ll Succeed
Risk Assessment and Test Plan Management: You lead specific risk assessments and assist with the establishment and maintenance of first line of defense (1LOD) test plans, ensuring robust risk identification and mitigation strategies are in place.
Control Program Execution: You support the execution of relevant control programs, including 1LOD control testing and AML quality assurance (QA) activities, contributing to the integrity and effectiveness of compliance processes.
Deficiency Management: You assist in the management of relevant deficiency activities, including monitoring and reporting to key stakeholders, helping to address and resolve control gaps in a timely manner.
Subject Matter Expertise and Stakeholder Support: You act as CGC’s subject matter expert (SME) and single point of contact (SPOC) to support line of business (LOB) compliance with key bank-wide programs such as Business Managed Technology, Fraud, Third Party Governance, and Operational Risk Management.
Internal and External Partner Engagement: You regularly liaise with individuals across various Capital Markets lines of business (LOBs) and other CIBC functional groups - including Global Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Privacy Office, and Audit - to support CIBC’s governance and control initiatives and programs.
Policy and Program Communication: You communicate with policy and program owners, providing data analysis and reports to facilitate policy and program reviews, enabling informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
Who You Are
You have a degree in Business. Management/accounting designation (Chartered Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Certified General Accountant) is preferred.
You can demonstrate 5+ years of industry-related experience and have a strong understanding of global Capital Markets related products, services, processes and regulatory requirements. An ability to effectively communicate with business partners is essential to success in the role.
You are an effective communicator. You quickly acquire new knowledge and demonstrate competence in every situation. Your ability to build and maintain key internal processes and relationships adds measurable value to the team. You bring exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, both oral and written; ensuring clarity and collaboration across all levels.
You are technically savvy. You have a high degree of computer literacy and proficiency with essential business tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint. Experience with process automation components (i.e. Excel Macros) is an asset.
You have an eye for the details. You leverage your strong analytical and conceptual skills to deliver insightful solutions. Your efficient organizational skills empower you to adapt seamlessly to shifting priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while ensuring consistently high quality results.
