Job Description:

About the role:

The Director, Business Portfolio Management understands lean process management, how organizational strategy drives team-level outcomes, objective and key results framework and Agile portfolio management and governance. This role is responsible for supporting the AVP, Business Portfolio Management in aligning their priorities to the organizational strategies and committed work. This role understands the team capabilities, helps with prioritization of work and backlogs.  The Director, Business Portfolio Management is responsible for the leadership, management and development of Portfolio Managers & Analysts supporting the BPM Team. 

What will you do?

  • Drives Portfolio and BU level reporting on initiative health and block funding requirements/planning
  • Partners and collaborates with Leadership and Key Stakeholders to develop annual Key Initiative plan inputs and ongoing financial view
  • Partner with Business Leaders and Journey Platform owners to maintain and update portfolio roadmaps, prioritize deliverables and manage backlogs
  • Create and deliver stakeholder communications for ongoing priorities, including status updates, roadmap, dependencies, pressure points and key decisions requiring alignment
  • Lead and drive the intake and assessment of new ideas to the BPM funnel, guiding and supporting the Prep Group in analysis and decision making
  • Support the AVP, Business Portfolio Management with events and ceremonies (e.g. bi-weekly Portfolio and Platform reviews, Execution Group)
  • Leads a team of Portfolio Manager/Analysts responsible for Portfolio financial analysis and portfolio administration activities

What do you need to succeed?

  • 3 to 5 years of portfolio management experience at the management level
  • Experience in digital and large company transformations 
  • Experience in scaled agile environments with multi-layer operating models
  • History of process ownership, continual process improvement and lean process design
  • Portfolio level financial management and reporting
  • Enterprise initiative reporting 
  • Experience in applying OKRs as drivers of work prioritization within a portfolio backlog
  • Experience in process design/evolution
  • Strong analytical, planning and organization skills, combined with strong business sense
  • Ability to lead and manage work streams and multiple projects concurrently
  • The ability to effectively influence people to all levels in a fast-moving environment
  • Able to build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace
  • Outcome-focused and result-driven

Preferred Skills:

  • PMI-ACP or equivalent
  • Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency and trust
  • Brings a high-energy and passionate outlook to the job and can influence those around them
  • Experienced in or excited to learn Agile way of working 

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
