Position Summary:

The Director, Business Performance Analytics position is focused on providing actionable insight and recommendations to senior leadership and key business partners within the Claims organization, acting as a curious and analytically driven consultant who leads their team to solve ambiguous business problems. This logic and data-driven approach is critical to bringing understanding to specific operational processes along with comprehending the interconnected relationships across cross-functional categories within Claims. Insight obtained through analysis will be compiled into a comprehensive story to share initial findings and then monitored for ongoing performance improvement. Establishing a framework and roadmap to address long term goals will be critical, along with developing an effective team structure to lead day to day project work. Coaching and developing the team related to their domain knowledge, analytical problem solving, and storytelling abilities will be essential. This role must maintain a strong connection with business partners to collaborate on insight and problem-solving strategies.

Position Responsibilities:
 

  • Mentors and coaches to ensure professional development for a team of analytics professionals including individual contributors and managers. Actively looks for opportunities to help team grow their skills and knowledge base.  
  • Provides timely constructive feedback on performance.  Varies coaching style to help team members reach their full potential.
  • Manages a portfolio of long-term projects effectively with limited guidance. Identifies a critical path and key dependencies for each project. Does both proactively and checks in appropriately.
  • Leverages differences in perspectives and priorities within and across teams to optimize outcomes.
  • Proactively engages business partners to explore new approaches that may optimize results.
  • Leading development of analysis to solve ambiguous business problems and proactively maintain focus on gaining understanding and clarity
  • Enabling understanding by various levels of leadership to comprehend trending and monitor business performance
  • 25% travel may be required

Position Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience working in a professional environment in a similar position
  • 3+ years of experience in the insurance industry preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred
  • Curious problem solver who enjoys answering ambiguous questions and providing relevant recommendations for improvement
  • Advanced skills with Tableau or Power BI to use data to tell a comprehensive story and allow self-directed guided user driven analysis
  • Python or R or other programming language
  • SQL to query relational databases
  • Ability to apply descriptive analytics to analyze data and validate assumptions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to partner with business stakeholders
  • Dynamic leadership capabilities to set a forward-looking vision for team and establish development plans to achieve needed outcomes
  • Ability to coordinate a large portfolio of work
  • Experience with process improvement principles are a plus

  • This role can be worked hybrid from a local Kemper office. Up to 25% travel could be required.
  • The range for this position is $111,900 to $186,700 When determining candidate offers, we consider experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location among other factors. This job is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and Kemper benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, etc.)
