Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President, Airport & Flight Information Services, the Director, Airport & Flight Information Services provides oversight for their area of responsibility within the assigned Towers, FSS/FICs. The Director ensures consistent application in safety, service delivery, and people leadership on a national basis.

The Director is accountable for the safe, cost effective, and efficient delivery and management of all air traffic services and airspace management within their area of responsibility. This includes the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of the Specialty operations, including all material, financial, and human resources.

The Director also provides strategic direction to their area of responsibility under the guidance of the AVP, Airport & Flight Information Services which support the company's strategic plan.

*Note: Work location will be either Montreal ACC, Moncton ACC, or Gander ACC with some flexibility within either FIR.

In this role you will: 

  • Partner with key stakeholders within Operations and collaborate with other business units, users, and customers in order to proactively monitor and respond to customer needs and enhance efficiencies.  
  • Plan, implement, and coordinate the FIR strategic initiatives to support the Corporate and Operations strategic goals, leading to significant impact on the success of Operations and long-term success of NAV CANADA.  
  • Develop and maintain close and mutually beneficial relationships within the Operations Group, customers, internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Airport Operators, Transport Canada, aviation users/customers, and union representatives) establishing objectives, evaluating performance, and supporting learning and development. 
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees and managers to create a high performing and highly engaged team of professionals.  
  • Oversee the establishment and execution of organizational strategies (governance, roles & responsibility definitions, training, communications).  
  • Be responsible for leading a team of managers, including the responsibility of hiring, resource allocation, prioritization, staff development, performance management, and authorization of leave and overtime; provide guidance and coaching on disciplinary action, as required.  
  • Foster a high-performing culture by providing timely and constructive feedback related to performance as well as reviewing team deliverables and practices to ensure high-quality results. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships, advocating for an engaged and motivated workforce, building skills to leverage capabilities of diverse groups of individuals, and maintaining a collaborative and effective employee-relations working environment. 
  • Delegate responsibility, monitor progress, and hold individuals accountable for expected results. 
  • Be responsible for overseeing annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Prepare documentation, materials, and presentations reporting to the executive team and to all staff on progress of strategy execution. 

What you bring:

  • 7-10 years of progressive leadership positions in the industry. 
  • Demonstrated delivery track record in a large, fast-pace and complex enterprise environment. 
  • Experience in Operations is an asset. 
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the aviation industry. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Air Navigation System and Air Traffic Management. 
  • Completion of a High School diploma.

Working Conditions: 

  • This position is on site and not eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
  • Travel required.
