About the Function

This role sits in the Direct Tax Reporting and Compliance team, focusing on RoW entities. It is critical in delivering the group tax external reporting requirements including our obligations under SOX. 

This role is also focusing on ensuring that European and African markets’ direct tax processes (including Corporate income tax, suffered withholding tax and other supplementary returns) are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation and outsourcing where applicable) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are strictly adhered to.

The role sits in the Global Tax Team and works closely with the Group Controllers department and market finance team.

About the role

The scope for this role includes 2 major parts:

  • Direct tax reporting:
  • including reporting and reconciliation of return to group report differences, maintaining and managing deferred tax schedules and reconciliation, filling OTP tax provision and deferred tax schedules for non-complex Diageo entities. (OTP- Diageo’s tax reporting system) Additional to the annual reporting, tasks include the Prior Year Adjustment (PYA) and P09 reporting processes for non-complex or medium-complex RoW reporting entities.
  • Direct tax compliance:
  • activities such as corporate tax returns, GL reconciliation and supporting of the local tax manager based on the global agreement.

To perform quality reporting of the entities in scope for this role, both the external and internal reporting will need to be monitored by this role. It will be required to interpret the impact of the changes in the business, taxation and reporting environment to tax reporting.

There is a wide scope for exposure to key stakeholders within the Finance function. This role will need to effectively build up and manage relationship with GBO FC teams, with the compliance teams and local tax teams.

Experience / skills required

  • Diploma on finance or accounting, 2-5 years of finance experience
  • Interest and motivation to develop strong technical accounting skills with an excellent understanding of IFRS
  • Good communication and influencing skills that facilitate effective networking and relationship building with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • Good judgement
  • Imaginative thinker of capable of devising solutions to complex issues
  • Self-motivated and well organised approach to work
