Digital Services Systems Engineer

THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Services Systems Engineer (Level 3) to act as a senior technical authority within the Technology & Digital Services (TDS) Operations team. This role is critical to ensuring the stability, security, observability, and performance of our global technology estate.

As the highest-tier operational engineer, you will lead complex troubleshooting, own incident resolution end-to-end, and provide governance and mentorship to Level 1 and Level 2 teams. You will drive operational excellence by embedding ITIL practices, enhancing monitoring, and improving system reliability across infrastructure, cloud platforms, and business systems.

You will work closely with Operations & Infrastructure, Design & Engineering, and Data & AI teams to support enterprise platforms including Microsoft Azure, M365, Snowflake, NetSuite, Anaplan, and associated integrations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working alongside the Operations & Infrastructure, Design & Engineering, and Data & AI Team, this will be an integral role in the TDS team:

· Serve as the L3 escalation point for incidents, problems, and service requests across the global IT estate.

· Lead troubleshooting of complex issues spanning infrastructure, cloud services, integrations, and business systems.

· Provide governance, mentorship, and technical direction to L1/L2 engineers.

· Oversee root cause analysis (RCA), problem management, and long-term prevention plans.

Systems Operations & Reliability (SRE-focused)

· Ensure the stability, reliability, and scalability of core IT services, cloud resources, identity platforms, integrations, and business applications.

· Manage configurations, deployments, and upgrades across Windows, Azure, M365, Snowflake, NetSuite, and adjacent systems.

· Own system performance tuning, capacity planning, and service availability management.

Observability, Monitoring & Tooling

· Define and implement observability standards across logs, metrics, traces, and events.

· Enhance monitoring architecture using tools such as Azure Monitor, Sentinel, Snowflake Observability/Usage dashboards, and NetSuite monitoring utilities.

· Drive proactive detection, alerting, and performance insights across the technology stack.

· Ensure deep visibility and dependency mapping for third-party providers, integrations, and cloud services.

Cloud, Data & Business Systems

· Operate and support Snowflake environments (security, access control, performance optimization).

· Support NetSuite platform operations (roles, permissions, configuration, integrations).

· Collaborate with Data & AI teams on pipeline readiness and operational governance.

· Oversee identity and access management (MFA, Conditional Access, PAM).

Security, Compliance & Governance

· Implement and maintain security controls across Azure, M365, Snowflake, and NetSuite.

· Conduct log reviews, threat hunting, and compliance checks.

· Ensure adherence to GDPR, ISO standards, and internal governance requirements.

ITIL-Aligned Operations

· Own L3 responsibilities across Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management.

· Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and operational playbooks.

· Support major incident response and automation of recurring tasks.

Disaster Recovery & Continuity

· Maintain and test DR and failover plans for all major systems.

· Implement automated failover and resilience strategies.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

· Partner with business stakeholders and project teams on initiatives requiring L3 expertise.

· Guide onboarding of new systems and support technology transitions.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES 

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

· Proven expertise as a Level 3 Systems or Operations Engineer in a global environment.

· Strong administration skills across Windows, Azure, M365, Intune, SharePoint, Teams.

· Hands-on experience with Snowflake operations and NetSuite platform support.

· Deep knowledge of observability tooling and concepts.

· Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

· Strong documentation capabilities (SOPs, incident reports, RCA outputs).

· Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (GDPR, ISO, InfoSec best practice).

· Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

· Passion for sustainability and alignment with NextEnergy Group values.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT infrastructure, networking, and systems administration, cybersecurity operations or engineering and 1 to 2 years’ experience with cloud platforms (Azure) security controls.

· Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.

· Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

· Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator) are a plus.
