Digital Product Owner, Wealth Planning

What is the opportunity?  

We are seeking a passionate and results-driven Digital Product Owner to lead the development and optimization of our proprietary wealth planning applications. This role will focus on delivering exceptional advisor and client experiences by collaborating with cross-functional teams to create product roadmaps, manage backlogs, and deliver innovative, client-centric solutions. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the digital transformation of wealth management by leveraging modern technologies and platforms to enhance the functionality and usability of our wealth planning tools; as well as must be adept at analyzing current-state processes and driving smart, scalable solutions. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and strong communication capabilities as well as a passion for driving change and adopting new technologies and capabilities (i.e. Gen AI).

Key Responsibilities

Lead Product Development and Optimization:

  • Define and prioritize the reporting product backlog, ensuring that the most valuable features are delivered first.

  • Create clear and concise user stories and acceptance criteria based on business requirements.

  • Continuously improve the platform to meet the needs of advisors and clients, enhancing their financial planning experience.

  • Develop and maintain a forward-looking product strategy that accounts for methodology changes, technical trends and industry shifts.

Collaborate Across Teams:

  • Partner with technology, design, and business stakeholders to align product roadmaps with strategic goals.

  • Ensure seamless delivery of client-focused solutions that address user needs and business objectives.

  • Work closely with architects and developers to ensure technical feasibility and adherence to best practices.

Leverage Agile Methodologies:

  • Utilize agile frameworks to manage product development, including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and user story creation.

  • Ensure the product backlog is transparent, prioritized, and aligned with the product roadmap.

Engage with Users and Advisors:

  • Act as the voice of the customer by gathering insights from advisors and clients to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement, incorporating user feedback into product features and ensure solutions address real-world needs.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their reporting needs, gather requirements, and translate them to actionable tasks for the architecture/development team.

Manage Initiatives End-to-End:

  • Oversee initiatives from conception through to launch, ensuring successful delivery and ongoing optimization.

  • Define and track metrics to measure the success of the platform.

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves Experience:

  • At least 1 year of product management or agile development experience, with 2 years in a relevant product/service domain.

  • At least 3 years of business experience, preferably within the financial industry and wealth management.

  • Experience with agile processes and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is highly desirable.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification is highly desirable.

Professional Capabilities:

  • Ability to lead in an agile work environment.

  • Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.

  • Ability to make informed decisions in complex and ambiguous situations.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Technical Capabilities:

  • Agile Framework and Practice: Proficiency in agile methodologies and principles.

  • Business Analysis: Expertise in planning and requirement gathering.

  • Product Development: Ability to leverage market insights to guide product design and development.

  • Stakeholder Management:  Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Nice-to-have:

  • CFP / PFP or IQPF

  • In depth understanding and knowledge of Federal and Provincial taxation and pension legislation.

  • French language skills (speaking, reading and writing)

  • Familiarity with Salesforce is a strong asset.
