About the Role:

We are looking to recruit a multi-skilled journalist to help develop our digital output across our social media platforms. The role involves managing the Newsroom’s X, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Threads and Bluesky feeds and having direct input into the daily newsgathering process for news and sports. 

We're not just looking for somebody who can write great posts, we want a journalist to join our team who fully understands the digital industry and the latest trends and can help deliver bespoke content. This role will suit somebody with keen interest in news and local sport and the future development of online platforms in the digital news space. 

Specific Duties & Tasks:

  • Produce bespoke digital content for news and sports online platforms 

  • Managing the Virgin Media News social media accounts, monitoring and posting key breaking news lines and sports updates. 

  • Liaise with reporters in the field to share video from breaking news stories and live sporting events to our digital platforms in a timely manner. 

  • Working with the Editor to select content from our news bulletins and sports coverage to be promoted across digital platforms. 

  • Work with our journalists to create bespoke content for digital news platforms and sporting platforms 

  • Subtitling packages and clips to post to digital platforms as well as monitoring and sourcing content from other sources. 

  • Scheduling social media posts and content across the day and night to maximise exposure for TV news bulletins, sports bulletins, and content. 

  • Editing video packages for our digital platforms. Training will be provided. 

  • Bring forward ideas for future digital news and sports coverage. 

  • Ensure content adheres to high standards of digital journalism, including spelling and grammar, and is up-to-date. 

  • Keep up-to-date with developments in digital and social media trends and technologies, also supporting innovative forms of journalism and new thinking. 

  • Sourcing and obtaining rights to User-Generated Content. 

  • Ensure digital content always meets legal and compliance requirements. 

Skills & Expertise:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in journalism. 

  • A keen news judgement and a good understanding of how visual news media works. 

  • Proven digital journalism experience, excellent judgement with creative flair, solid writing skills and a deep understanding of Irish and global news and sport. 

  • Strong experience of how to deliver content on social media platform and best practice in the industry. 

  • Knowledge of news media and emerging digital technologies. Video editing skills would be advantageous. 

  • A good understanding of the legal, ethical and editorial processes involved in newsgathering and output. 

  • Ability to be a good team-player and people manager as this role involves working directly with editors, journalists, producers and camera operators across the working day. 

  • Proven experience in dealing with breaking news stories and fast-moving sports stories. 

  • Extensive experience in broadcast reporting and production. 

  • Enthusiasm and energy for national broadcast news and sports. 

  • A robust work ethic that understands the need for flexibility.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to perform other newsroom duties as required.
