job purpose

The Digital Manufacturing Engineer will support fairlife's ambition of building a best-in-class Decision Intelligence (DI) ecosystem by serving as the bridge between our factory floor systems and our data infrastructure. This role is deeply embedded in manufacturing operations, with primary responsibility for our DI Ignition platform and the data it generates across all sites. The ideal candidate comes from a manufacturing or industrial automation background and is eager to grow their skills in SQL, Python, and cloud-based data tools.

responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the Decision Intelligence team's Ignition instances across all manufacturing sites, and partner with IT and OT teams who own enterprise Ignition administration
  • Analyze source PLC systems, read and interpret PLC logic to identify appropriate tags, and configure them correctly in Ignition
  • Support the connection of factory PLCs and equipment to Ignition and ensure system uptime
  • Work closely with manufacturing, line integrators, and vendors during installation/validation/operation of factory systems (PLCs, MES, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot data flow issues between manufacturing equipment and our IoT platform
  • Support the configuration and maintenance of industrial data exchange tools
  • Collaborate with the Decision Intelligence team to integrate factory data into our broader data ecosystem
  • Develop and grow skills in SQL and Python to support reporting and analytics needs

 

skills/qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial automation environment
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA software, specifically:
    • Building views and dashboards using the Perspective module
    • Managing User Defined Types (UDTs) for scalable tag management
    • Connecting Ignition to PLCs, SCADA platforms, and databases for telemetry data consumption
  • Strong understanding of PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens, B&R) and MES systems, including the ability to read and interpret PLC logic to evaluate and select appropriate tags from source systems
  • Understanding of industrial data exchange concepts: OPC, Modbus, MQTT, etc.
  • Understanding of industrial networking and on-prem resource administration concepts
  • Experience with SQL and/or Python preferred; willingness to learn these skills is required
  • Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms is a plus; willingness to learn is required
  • Growth mindset with a passion for data-driven manufacturing
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Flexible working in a 24/7 manufacturing facility

Base pay range:
$100,000$120,000 USD
