JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Manager, Media and Public Affairs, the Digital Communications Officer is responsible for monitoring, curating, and creating social media content for Hydro Ottawa Group and its subsidiaries that engage and inform both the general public and key stakeholder audiences, including the media, our shareholder and other external stakeholders. The Digital Communications Officer provides communications advice based on sound analysis and knowledge of social media best practices and emerging trends; and strategically develops social media content to ensure that the integrity and reputation of the companies are protected and preserved.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential responsibilities of the job include, but are not necessarily restricted to the following:
Develop, implement and measure social media strategies for Hydro Ottawa’s social media networking sites.
Curate and disseminate organic content, as well as paid advertisements as required for social media, defining targets and reporting on results
Primary person responsible for Hydro Ottawa’s presence on social media, and engaging in social media conversations on behalf of the company in a way that preserves and enhances brand reputation of the company
Collaborate with internal clients and other Communications and Public Affairs colleagues, as required, to ensure proposed social media strategies align with organizational objectives and division deliverables
Create and disseminate a variety of channel-optimized communications products for Hydro Ottawa’s social media networking sites, including but not limited to, short-form videos, photos, and copy.
Organize and lead the cross-divisional social media team meetings, working collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to create and maintain a comprehensive social media content calendar.
Independently monitor, analyze and report on the effectiveness of Hydro Ottawa Group and its subsidiaries’ social media communications for reaching and increasing engagement with key audiences
Work as part of an issues-driven team to anticipate, identify and take appropriate action on emerging trends, concerns, or issues affecting Hydro Ottawa, and recommend strategies for managing those issues
Prepare social media engagement reports for briefings for senior management, as required, and support divisional reporting requirements (i.e. extract monthly social media metrics and communicate results and recommendations)
As a member of Hydro Ottawa’s Crisis Communications Team, react quickly and effectively to crises which present a reputational risk
Ensure the organization’s key branding standards are maintained consistently across all social media channels
Build and maintain positive working relationships with vendors and suppliers
Perform budget-related administrative duties including soliciting quotes from outside suppliers
Perform other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A post-secondary education in an appropriate field such as public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, or equivalent
3-5 years of progressive relevant experience
Knowledge of the energy sector is an asset
In depth knowledge of media and social media platforms, monitoring tools, metrics and analytics
Experience planning, developing and implementing social media campaigns, projects or activities
Demonstrated knowledge and experience using design and editing softwares and tools for creating and editing social media content, including but not limited to short-form videos, graphics, etc.
Knowledge of marketing communications strategies and tools
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
English essential, both oral and written
Bilingual (English/French) essential, both oral and written
Valid driver’s license - Class G
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.
