The Role:

The Digital Business Development Underwriter lays a key role with a triple purpose, designed to sit at the intersection of technical underwriting, operational delivery and proactive business development in Portugal and Spain. The role focuses on managing the full lifecycle of digital business—from focusing on the sales side with the strategic activation of our lower-volume broker segment, to underwriting non clean business and to ensuring the operational efficiency and growth of our e-trading platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales development
    • Be a strategic contributor for the achievement of the annual digital business budget
    • Manage sales onsite visits for Portuguese and Spanish markets
    • Proactively identify and engage a segment of "low-production" brokers to uncover untapped business potential
    • Focus on customer relationship management by building and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and partners to foster new business and portfolio growth
    • Act as the face of the digital business, conducting products and platform webinars or online/onsite demos to brokers and partners
    • Internal continuous collaboration with the Marketing Team to raise awareness about digital business
    • Conversation ratios analysis to implement strategies to improve new business through targeted follow-ups and relationship management.
  • Operational delivery
    • Handle a high volume of requests from brokers efficiently
    • Provide operational support for users of digital platforms
    • Deliver superb customer service via inbound and outbound calls
    • Guarantee a continued user experience excellence of the digital platform
    • Promote the use of digital tools within the broker and business partner community
    • Report technical incidents related to digital platforms to the Change/IT team
    • Propose continuous technological improvements to digital platforms

  • Underwriting
    • Evaluate non clean business and underwrite risks that "fall out" of the automated digital process, focusing on Professional Indemnity, General Liability, D&O and Cyber products (after obtaining underwriting authority level 1)
    • Collaborate with the Underwriting Technical Team to convert non clean business into end-to-end digital business.

Person Specification:

  • High-level verbal and written communication skills for delivering webinars, training, and driving sales meetings
  • Customer-focused mindset with a drive to deliver exceptional service standards
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
  • Continuous improvement mindset to navigate a “start up” business department
  • Growth mindset to hunt new business opportunities and chase continuous digital operational improvements
  • Team player with a results-driven and detail-oriented attitude
  • Self-starter, feeling comfortable with high-volume outbound activity without constant supervision
  • Portuguese and Spanish speaker (ideally)
  • Availability to travel in Portugal and Spain to guarantee regular onsite sales meetings.
