About the Role

The Nutrition Department at St. Vincent’s Hospital is seeking a suitably experienced person for this full time position. Responsibilities include assisting patients with appropriate meal orders and data entry of meal orders within assigned patient care areas.
 
To be successful in this role you must possess well developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to communicate with patients, their families and other team members such as nurses, dietitians and food service staff.
 
You are a team player and be able to prioritise and organise a workload and have excellent computer skills.


Classifications for this position will range from HS1A - HS17 ($54,389 - $63,138 per annum).

Your Contribution

  • Accredited degree, TAFE diploma or equivalent in a relevant area, such as food science or nutrition, or working towards the completion of such a certificate OR;

  • Extensive prior employment experience in similar role with evidence of in-house training

  • Current Nationally coordinated criminal history check, or willing to obtain

Position Description

3. LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Nutrition Department provides high quality services to all areas of St Vincent’s including acute and subacute inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, St Georges Health Service and the Residential Care Facilities. The Nutrition Department has a close working relationship with the Food Services department, Support Services and all multidisciplinary clinical teams.


4. POSITION PURPOSE
This role is responsible for providing co-ordination of patient menus and meals across allocated inpatient wards. This position requires a strong customer focus and operates under the guidance and supervision of the Chief Dietitian but requires interaction and communication with patients and their carers, Dietitians, Food Services staff, Support Service Assistants, Allied Health Assistants, and Nursing staff.


5. POSITION DUTIES 
 Access up to date information on patient location, unit & condition
 Gather and record up to date information on patients’ diet code, food allergies and meal status
 Collect patient meal orders, generate meal tickets and ensure correct meals are ordered as per 
patients’ diet code
 Assist patients to make appropriate daily meal choices under the guidance of the nurse caring for 
the patient and in conjunction with the unit Dietitians, where appropriate
 Assist patients identified by dietitians to select appropriate high protein and energy meals, snacks 
and supplements from the prescribed hospital menu
 Provide feedback to dietitans regarding patient consumption and tolerance of meals, snacks and 
supplements
 Gather and record up to date information on patients requiring enteral feeds and supplements 
under the guidance of the unit dietitian
 Deliver enteral feeds to care centres

Health and Safety 
 Attend general hospital orientation within 3 months of commencement
 Protect the health and safety of self and others, complying with all health and safety related 
policies, procedures and directions 
 Report incidents and accidents and collaborate with management to resolve safety issues 
 Complete required Fire and Emergency Training annually
 Complete required Workplace Culture and Equity Training annually
 As required, comply with fit-testing and PPE requirements
 Participate in reporting and analysis of safety and quality data including risks or hazards,
 Report any hazards, near misses and incidents (regardless of whether an injury occurred or not) 
into Riskman 
 Identify and report any variance to expected standard and minimising the risk of adverse outcomes
