DESCRIPTION: Responsible for coordinating and managing activities and equipment of Production department in reagent manufacturing, dispensing and final packaging of reagents and liquid product components. Manages Diagnostic Production Manager responsibilities in the absence of the manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Checks inventories of bulk reagents and buffers included as components in test kits products and the availability of each. Reviews open orders for reagents sold as custom-filled or bulk material.
- Plans and schedules reagent and buffer manufacturing and packaging establishing priorities and sequences for reagent dispensing.
- Writes, develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
- Manages packaging of liquid kit components such as conjugates, calibrators and enzyme diluents.
- Responsible for maintaining inventories of raw materials used in reagent and buffer manufacturing. Periodically reviews Solomon inventory reports and completes requisition requests for procurement.
- Interprets specifications and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Investigates customer complaints related to product manufactured and packaged in this area.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of laboratory, department, or employees.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Participates in the quality management system.
- Maintains equipment and instruments; troubleshoots equipment problems; oversees servicing of equipment when needed. Reports equipment and instrument malfunctions to Diagnostic Production Manager.
- Performs Diagnostic Production Manager's responsibilities in Manager's absence.
- Performs duties of workers supervised.
