Head of Development Cost Management - London

Role

The role is to lead and take full responsibility for Development Cost Management services in London including our people and financial performance. Reporting to the Head of Cost Management UK&I, this role will involve building and growing our capability across our existing cost management team in London and expanding our client base in commercial development projects including new build, deep retrofits and asset repositioning. It also includes working alongside leaders in other service lines to broaden our offering and footprint with investor and development clients in London supporting them in maximising value across their real estate assets and delivering highly sustainable projects.

Responsibilities

Leadership - work with the Head of Cost Management UK&I and other key stakeholders within JLL to set the business plan for Development Cost Management in London and lead the delivery of this plan. This will include being a figurehead and ambassador for the team, both within the firm and outside.

Financial - take full responsibility for the financial performance of the team supporting the wider UK&I Cost Management business with meeting its financial performance targets. This includes setting and delivering to budget, profitability and productivity of the team, and all aspects of the billing and cash collection.

Growth - work with the key stakeholders within PDS and the wider business to develop a clear growth strategy for the business line. Engage with the other PDS service line, sector and regional leads to identify and support with securing new work for all our business lines driving an ambitious growth mindset.

New Business Development & Service Establishment - actively source, bid for and win new development projects across London's commercial development market. Lead the establishment and mobilisation of cost management services for new clients, ensuring seamless service delivery from appointment through project completion. This includes developing standardised processes for rapid service deployment and team integration on new projects.

Delivery - where necessary, lead on delivery of projects and engender a culture of high performance and innovation across the team. Promote the adoption of new technologies and AI to enhance our service delivery to clients and improve efficiencies across the project lifecycle.

People & Culture - set the tone and promote a culture of inclusivity creating a true team dynamic with a sense of pride and belonging.

Resourcing & Recruitment - responsible for the efficient management of resources across all grades within the team. Identify capability and resource gaps and work with the recruitment team to attract and recruit the best talent into the Cost Management business.

Business development:

  • Build and own relationships with key clients for the Cost Management team while also promoting the wider offering of all PDS business lines
  • Build relationships across JLL and actively support a OneJLL approach to maximise value to our clients and cross selling opportunities for PDS and the wider business
  • Identify and lead on key pursuits/must wins and engaging with the pursuits team as required
  • Ownership of the pipeline data for the team ensuring accuracy of reporting
  • Attend key industry events and conferences, with speaking slots where appropriate
  • Support the marketing team on the development of promotional materials and collateral to champion the capability of the team internally and externally and promote the JLL brand for Cost Management services in London and the UK&I

Characteristics, Skills and Experience

  • Experience of leading and growing Cost Management teams creating a one team dynamic and building successful relationships with key stakeholders
  • Recognised in the London market as a leader in the delivery of Cost Management services
  • Established business development network within London's commercial development market with proven relationships across developers, investors, funds, and institutional clients
  • Experience and profile in the commercial development sector to push forward the expansion of our Cost Management business
  • Demonstrated track record of sourcing, winning and mobilising cost management services on new development projects
  • Planning and successful execution of growth strategies
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of financial metrics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - confident with client interaction and giving presentations
  • Ability to interpret complex information, solve problems and bring forward solutions
  • Flexible and comfortable working in a multi-stakeholder business
  • Proven ability to establish and deploy cost management services rapidly across diverse project types and client requirements
