The Learning Developer is responsible for translating user requirements and training designs into quality, technology-based solutions.
This position requires a solid understanding of eLearning development strategies and the ability to; create and develop highly interactive, branching multimedia content using Articulate 360, Vyond, Adobe Creative Suite and Office 365 Suite including Sharepoint.
This position also assists in the continuous development, compliance, and sustainment of Merchandising Operations department initiatives. The Merchandising Operations Learning Developer plays a vital role by delivering exceptional customer service through project collaboration, document management, and ongoing maintenance of all department-specific responsibilities.
What you will do – Essential Responsibilities
Execute Merchandising Operations-specific responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Work with internal customer groups to conduct needs analyses through interviews with subject-matter experts.
Analyze training needs to determine the appropriate training objectives and delivery methods.
Develop innovative, interactive training courses using Articulate 360 or similar e-learning development tool, in line with CarMax Learning standards.
Partner with other training team members to review and update the design of training programs, or develop custom graphics, as needed.
Assist with deployment of Merchandising communication materials through multiple platforms including MS Office, SharePoint, Articulate 360, Adobe, Workday, and video production.
Support organization and maintenance of training document libraries, including, but not limited to, the CarMax Way and Merchandising SharePoint.
Track and report metric results for Merchandising-related initiatives and business-area goals.
Communicate effectively with all team members, business partners, and store-level Associates.
Complete various day-to-day task-driven activities as directed to support the successful function of Merchandising Operations.
Purpose of the role
The Learning Developer position supports all initiatives in the Merchandising Operations department while serving as a functional and administrative resource for all aspects of department-specific training and operational processes. This position is fast-paced, and candidates must be able to prioritize simultaneous demands while providing exceptional customer service to business partners and field Associates. As a Learning Developer, you’ll play a critical role in the learning and development of our associates by creating interactive learning products that enhance associate performance and engagement.
Qualifications and Requirements
Instructional design and graphic design skills
Exceptional writing skills with a strong sense of quality control
Strong organization and planning skills
Highly productive, demonstrating the ability to manage competing tasks and demands
Strong team working and interpersonal skills
Ability to work productively with little supervision
Experience working in a fast-paced environment while delivering exceptional results with limited supervision
Prior team project / collaborative experience a plus
Education and/or Experience:
Proven proficiency in developing eLearning instructional courseware is required
Minimum 2+ years’ experience developing interactive instructional content
Experience with creating AICC and SCORM compliant e-learning modules preferred
Experience with web-based development software (e.g., Captivate, Articulate)
Experience with digital graphic arts
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Photoshop
Experience with additional multimedia authoring tools a plus
(e.g., audio recording and editing, video editing and processing, etc.) a plus
Proficiency with Office 365 suite, including Teams and SharePoint
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience
Workday HCM experience, preferred
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Home Office and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.
