SET THE COURSE

To create a line of apparel that is attractive to the Tommy Bahama customer, and to work with a team of designers and other staff to ensure the quality of the products is world-class.

BE THE ISLAND GUIDE

  • Develops category or category segments of the Tommy Bahama line each season (color, styling, fabric selection), in partnership with Design Director responsible for the overall category(s).
  • Researches trends in fashion and determines desires for Tommy Bahama customer.
  • Researches seasonal textiles appropriate to category in partnership with Design Director.
  • Consistently researches market, including competitors for newness in silhouettes, details and textiles that can continuously evolve our product
  • Develops sketches for garment styling, driving into targeted costs
  • Develops design elements of garment Tech Pack – including BOM, Design Sketches and Sketch Details
  • Develops construction specifications in partnership with the Tech Designer
  • Orders samples in collaboration with the Design Director and Product Manager
  • Checks seasonal samples ahead of each milestone meeting with Design Director for adherence to design aesthetic, color, fit expression, fabric. 
  • Approves final samples for aesthetic, color, fit expression, fabric, trim
  • Works with Sr. Designers and Associate Designer / Assistant Designer to ensure cohesive line, and best quality product available.
  • Works on development fittings to articulate the design aesthetic, trim selections and validate fabric selection
  • Researches and develops engineered layouts for print, in collaboration with Print Designer and Design Director.
  • Researches and develops seasonal yarn dyes
  • Researches and develops seasonal embroidery/embellishment and graphics layouts
  • Researches and develops seasonal trims/hardware elements in collaborations with Materials Team
  • Monitors Associate/Assistant Designer work flow, as assigned
  • Manages assigned category deliverables to Company Development Calendar on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.  Provide weekly status to Design Director.
  • Presents product category to merchants, sales and other company audiences at milestone meetings and sales launches
  • Manages assigned category deliverables for seasonal line lists, product knowledge and fabric selling features.  Provide weekly status to Design Director.
  • Flexible for other duties as needed to help support the overall business
  • Ability to travel for seasonal fabric and trend research

ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE

  • 5+ years experience in women’s design (casual sportswear background preferred) ‘
  • Previous experience with cut & sew knits, woven’s preferred
  • Sophisticated taste level
  • Computer graphics experience with knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign helpful
  • Experience with the apparel design process from concept to product.
  • Ability to follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Understanding of Tommy Bahama customers. Ability to creatively design for this market.
  • Organization skills. Ability to work under tight timelines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to observe, learn, and incorporate new ideas quickly.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to Asia vendors, sales meetings, on domestic shopping trips or to Tommy Bahama retail sites.

Rate Range: $85,000.00 to $112,200.00 Annually

Multiple factors will vary the applicable rate of pay for this role, including an individual’s experience, knowledge, and skillset, as well as work location and available budget.
