SET THE COURSE
To create a line of apparel that is attractive to the Tommy Bahama customer and to work with a team of designers and other staff to ensure the quality of the products is world-class.
BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
- Develops segments of the Tommy Bahama line each season (color, styling, fabric selection).
- Research trends in fashion and determine desires for Tommy Bahama customer, prepare trend reports as needed.
- Develops computer coloration and fabrication, prepare development cards that articulate colors, specifications, fabrics and all information necessary so that samples can be created.
- Using CAD system to design colorways for prints, yarn dyes, jacquards, screens, & embroideries.
- Develop sketches for garment styling and update Flex PLM tech packs as necessary, update and maintain sketch library.
- Develop construction specifications and work with Technical Design team to hand-off styles, order samples, and update Flex PLM tech packs as necessary.
- Prepares presentation boards and workroom walls with sketches, CADS, fabrics and samples as needed for meetings with Cross-Functional Teams and Merchant Partners.
- Work with Materials Team to find and develop new fabrics and trims.
- Work with Design Assistants and Art Team to prepare and hand off seasonal artwork packets to the Materials Team.
- Attend fittings and check samples with Design Assistants, Production Assistants, & Technical Designers for adherence to specs, color, fit, fabric and construction. Approve final samples.
- Work with Materials and Sourcing/Production team to design products that meet company margin targets & sustainability goals.
- Work with Design Assistants to correspond and approve fabric lab dips, strike-offs, handlooms, trims, embroideries, wash panels, and other garment components.
- Work with Design Assistant to input all style details into tech packs using Flex PLM, complete Bill of Materials, full sets of sketches including detail sketches, updating and auditing Flex tech packs seasonally for all styles.
- Works with team of Designers and Design Assistants to ensure cohesive line and best quality product available.
- Collaborate with Cross Functional Team to resolve production problems for current or upcoming seasons.
- Listens to feedback from Merchandising, Sales, and Retail Staff to learn more about the Tommy Bahama customer.
- Work with Cross Functional Team and Merchant Team to fast-track styles based on sales results.
- Work with entire Design Team to plan sales meeting presentations through effective logistics, meeting planning, adherence to design calendar, and follow through skills.
- Work with Design Director to execute overall design strategy for the season.
- Work as efficiently as possible, while also focusing on quality results for the line.
- Recognize team members as valuable contributors and listen to their feedback.
- Seek new ways to make design processes more efficient and share ideas with team.
- Seek ways to improve his/her abilities and skills as a design team member.
- Contributes to the success of the entire team and take responsibility for results.
- Flexible for other duties as needed to help support overall business.
- May monitor the workflow of Design Assistant or Assistant Designers.
- May occasionally travel domestically for design inspiration, trend research, or fabrics shows.
ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
Education and Certifications
- Degree in Fashion Design
- Generally, 6+ years of experience in Men’s Design.
Experience and Skills
- Understanding of the Tommy Bahama customer and an ability to creatively design for this market.
- Sophisticated taste level.
- Previous experience designing Men’s Woven Shirts is highly desirable.
- Computer graphics experience with knowledge of Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop.
- Textile or Print Coloring experience using NED Graphics or equivalent software.
- Experienced user of Flex PLM or equivalent for tech pack management.
- Experience with the apparel design process from concept to product completion.
- Experience in the development of new fabrications.
- Ability to follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Detail oriented, deadline driven with strong time management skills.
- Strong communication skills and experience leading design presentations.
- Organization skills. Ability to work under tight timelines while managing multiple priorities.

Multiple factors will vary the applicable rate of pay for this role, including an individual’s experience, knowledge, and skillset, as well as work location and available budget.
Rate Range: $78,000.00 - $110,000.00 Annually
