Job Purpose
As a Designer, you will develop concepts, layout drawings, 3D models, and detailed designs for automotive powertrain components and sub-assemblies. You will act as a key interface between the design team and Product Engineers, integrating inputs from multiple sources into complete, production-ready designs.
You will manage multiple assignments simultaneously and report to the Design Supervisor or Manager. While this role has no direct reports, you are responsible for the technical accuracy and quality of your work.
The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including program management, finance, manufacturing, electrical hardware/software, and quality, as well as occasional interaction with customers and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain 3D models and drawings of automotive powertrain components and sub-assemblies using CAD software.
Create models/drawings/stacks/exploded views from supplied information such as sketches, marked prints, layouts and other information supplied by Product Engineers.
Design components for a variety of different manufacturing processes including casting, stamping, powdered metal, machine turned components and molded plastic.
Assist with development and maintenance of customer and internal guide files, drafting standards, work instructions, and other tools intended to enhance the efficiency and abilities of Design Group.
Determine critical dimension and tolerance information by working with engineering personnel. Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Generate drawings in accordance with industry design standards (ANSI, ISO etc)
Must complete assigned tasks within the established project timelines
Brainstorm new design concepts and assist in the creation and management of prototype BOM’s
Provide a smooth exchange of ideas and information between supervisor, engineers, and co-workers. This requires maintaining daily personal contact with all facets of the function's operations and remaining aware of current progress.
What we are looking for
Minimum of an associate’s degree in design/drafting is required.
NX and/or Catia V5 design experience (modelling/detailing proficiency req’d)
TeamCenter data management experience a plus
Being a team player and having good organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines is required.
Experience in automotive industry a plus
Interpersonal relations require professional verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage technical details
Proficient with Microsoft office products - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience and/or training in DFM/DFA is preferred.
Ability to read and understand design drawings, layouts, stack-ups, verbal design instructions is required
