The salary range for this role is $115,280.00 to $144,100.00. Base salaries are determined during our interview process, by assessing a candidate’s experience, skills against internal peers and against the scope and responsibilities of the position.

Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Chief Operating Engineer with coordinating Power Plant Operations and Maintenance activities to meet production / plant operations requirements along with division quality, safety and continuous improvement objectives. In addition, facilitating the Power Plant Operations and Maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in administering programs involving electrical, mechanical, general construction, and repair and maintenance of existing facilities and equipment. Included are the safe and efficient operation of building utilities systems.
  • Implement a complete preventive management system
  • Ensure effective cost management for site Power plant and well as budget development and ownership
  • Key contributor for the natural gas procurement team
  • Contracts negotiation with vendors and governing bodies.
  • Assigns and verifies completion of routine maintenance/ PM and operation of all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C systems and any other related equipment which contributes to the safe and effective operation of the facility.
  • Assist with the administration of inventory control programs and systems.
  • Implement strategies to reduce energy consumption and minimize the carbon footprint within the organization, fostering a commitment to sustainable practices

Quality & Safety

  • Create, foster and maintain a proactive safety culture.
  • OHSA - Ensure compliance of Occupational Health & Safety Act (section 25, 26, 27, and 28) per Hiram Walker & Son’s Ltd Policy- Management-Supervision-Worker Safety Responsibilities.
  • Support OHAS 18001 Safety Management Programs, ensure compliance with overall plant safety goals and initiatives. Provide necessary training.Schedule/conduct regular safety meetings and attain safety targets.
  • Develop and implement site-wide equipment standards for optimal efficiency and compliance
  • Ensure all employees are fully trained and that all employee skills are updated per ISO guidelines
  • Comply with all HWS management systems and with all Health and Safety policies and legislation
  • Conduct regular inspections of operating mechanical, electrical and equipment systems; make necessary adjustments to operating equipment and controls
  • Provide for quality assurance by creating and implementing preventive maintenance programs and recommending improvements to existing programs on an on-going basis
  • Ensure compliance with TSSA requirements and certifications
  • Develop/maintain effective building-specific maintenance and safety procedure manuals
    • External, regular work-related contact with
    • Outside contractors: project work, repair services and engineering
    • Suppliers: fuels, production supplies, equipment
  • QMS certifications maintained and transition to ISO 9001:200 Standard in the Power Plant and Maintain established systems and support activity to ensure recertification Remain proficient in all operational aspects of building systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and company directives as relates to building operations

Team Management

  • Coach employees by clarifying role requirements, discussing progress and facilitating the establishment of individual and team goals; assesses employee progress and provides employee feedback, gathers information regarding employee performance.
  • Manage department work schedules, payroll, job administration, time off requests and employee time & attendance.
  • Responsible for all safety related permits
  • Assign and monitor maintenance projects for employees.

Project Management

  • Deliver and manage budgets of CAPEX/OPEX projects
  • Lead change initiatives to deliver business results while maintaining an engaged workforce and Union Leadership commitment and acceptance to the change
  • Assist in required projects and programs to ensure that the Department achieves its annual goals

Competencies:

  • 1st class Power Engineer certificate from the TSSA (will consider a 2nd class Power Engineer certificate with some 1st class examination completed with all 1st class time (24 months experience as a Shift Engineer in a first-class plant)
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Appropriate license/permit for trade as may be required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems
  • May be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments); may require shift work, weekend and holidays work, and/or on call duties

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Software – JD Edwards, Kronos, MS Office, Rockwell DCS Controls
  • Awareness of relevant codes and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to make things happen, customer focus, team building and influencing and partnering
  • Project management relating to change and improvements in the Power Plant

Education:

  • Required:  Trade Certificate: First Class Operating Engineer certificate of qualification.
  • Preferred:  College Diploma, Stationary/Power Engineering.

  • Greatly influences goals but does not have final authority.  Manages and deploys resources to meet the goals.
