Harness inc.

Design Systems, Product Designer

U.S. (Remote) Full Time

Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.

Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.

Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.

With a global team across 14 offices and 25 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.

Position Summary

As part of our Harness 3.0 evolution, we are rethinking the visual and technical foundation of the Harness product experience. We are hiring a Design Systems Designer to help shape that next chapter.

This role sits at the intersection of product design and engineering. You will design and evolve the system that powers consistency, quality, and speed across our platform. That includes component libraries, token architecture, theming, interaction patterns, and the guidance that helps product teams build with more confidence and less friction.
This is an especially exciting moment to join. Harness 3.0 is raising the bar on visual quality, modernizing our design language, and strengthening the design to code workflows that will power the next generation of the product.

We are looking for someone with strong UI visual craft, high attention to detail, and a real interest in how systems come to life in code. This is not a maintenance role. We need a designer who can create polished, production ready UI, think systematically, and work comfortably in a token based, code integrated workflow.

About the role

  • Design and evolve high quality components, patterns, and foundations for our design system
  • Build scalable component libraries in Figma using strong auto layout, variants, properties, and responsive structure
  • Work in a token based environment, helping define and apply primitives, semantic tokens, and component level tokens
  • Partner closely with engineers to ensure components translate cleanly from design to React implementation
  • Contribute to multi theme system design across a complex platform
  • Raise the quality bar for visual design, accessibility, consistency, and production readiness across the product
  • Define system guidance, usage rules, and best practices that help teams adopt the system correctly
  • Support the evolution of our design to code workflow using AI assisted tools  across Figma, tokens, and implementation pipeline

About you

Visual design and craft
  • Strong visual design fundamentals, including typography, spacing, hierarchy, color, and composition
  • Sharp attention to detail across component states, interaction patterns, and visual consistency
  • Experience designing polished, production ready enterprise UI
  • Strong understanding of accessibility, including color contrast, focus states, and WCAG standards
  • Ability to balance visual quality with the constraints and structure of a system
Figma and component systems
  • Strong Figma proficiency, especially with auto layout, nesting, constraints, responsive components, variants, and properties
  • Experience building and maintaining component libraries in Figma
  • Strong understanding of how component properties in design map to props in code
  • Clear understanding of the difference between Figma Variables and design tokens
  • Hands on experience with Tokens Studio for Figma is required
  • Experience working directly with design tokens in JSON and translating them into Figma Variables is also valuable
Systems thinking
  • Strong grasp of atomic design principles and scalable system architecture
  • Experience with token based design systems, including primitive, semantic, and component token layers
  • Understanding of how tokens flow from design into code
  • Ability to think across themes, modes, and scalable system logic
  • Interest in deepening systems thinking and growing in a more technical design systems environment
Technical collaboration
  • Comfortable reading React component structure and discussing implementation details with engineers
  • Basic understanding of CSS and utility class patterns, ideally in a Tailwind based environment
  • Ability to work closely with engineering on component behavior, states, and design system adoption
Nice to have
  • Experience with Style Dictionary or token transformation pipelines
  • Familiarity with AI assisted design workflows
  • Exposure to design to code automation workflows, including Figma API, MCP servers, or similar tooling
  • Experience working on production design systems with code connected token pipelines
Why this role matters

Our design system is tightly connected to how we build product. Tokens flow from Figma through Token Studio and into production CSS and JS. That means we need a designer who can do more than create clean UI.
We need someone who understands how to design within a system, how to make components that translate cleanly into code, and how to raise quality while working inside real implementation constraints.
This role will help us scale a more cohesive, modern, and production ready product experience across Harness.
You may be a fit if you

  • Care deeply about craft and consistency
  • Enjoy structured, systems oriented design work
  • Like working closely with engineers
  • Want to grow at the intersection of design systems and implementation
  • Are excited by the challenge of building scalable foundations, not just shipping one off screen
